We had the good fortune of connecting with Christine Eames and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christine, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As small business tattoo studio owners already in the tattoo industry, it seemed like a natural step into tattoo after care. We didn’t so much as start another business as extend the one we have already into a different area because there was room for innovation and growth.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Better Butter Care reflects our personal lifestyle. Better Butter Care was designed to replace the use of petroleum jelly before, during and after the tattooing process. I, myself, have very sensitive skin and am not able to use many widely available commercial products and I was experiencing long and difficult healing times after a session. It was a very personal motivator to create something that would not only help my skin during tattooing, but also improve healing after tattooing. What we discovered on our creation journey, after hearing from clients, friends and family, was that Better Butter Care is useful for so many other skin applications! The healing properties in the ingredients are universal for helping all sorts of skin issues, such as sunburn, mild abrasions, cracked heels and it’s very soothing for itchy bug bites too, so it’s become one of our goals to grow into other areas of the health and beauty industry.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Good question – there are so many great things to do in and around Toronto. Being a tourist is one of my favourite things about travel so I would definitely take them to see the CN Tower and for dinner at one of the downtown restaurants. We could take a day trip to Niagara Falls, visit some waterfalls in Hamilton, see the Royal Botanical Gardens, go hiking at Rattlesnake Point, drive out to Prince Edward County for a couple days and do cider or wine tastings. Ontario has a lot to offer.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It really has been my husband Derek Lewis who has lead this company into existence and created the guidelines as to what we wanted Better Butter Care to do and to be. As a tattoo artist, in the trade for some 30+ years now, it’s his knowledge and expertise that shaped our product for tattoo industry use. We’d also like to thank Marni from Pelle Beauty who’s guidance and support were so beneficial when we were starting out.
