Meet Christian Serrano | Entrepreneur & Engineer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Serrano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christian, how do you think about risk?
I believe life is all about risk taking. If you don’t take risks, you will continue to live in comfort. Of course, that is not to say that that is not some peoples happiness, it is. However, that is not mine. I like to wake up and challenge myself in everything I can. When I stop being challenged, I stop growing and the thought of looking back a year from now and still be in the same spot, terrifies me. There is a quote about risk taking that I always think about, “if you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.” This is the exact reason why I am a risk tasker. I don’t want to be ordinary, I don’t want to settle, I want to continue to take risks and grow. Being an immigrant, I could have gone the safe route and continued to work minimum wage with my dad in construction and I am sure I would find happiness in that. However, I knew I wanted more for myself so I took the risk, spent thousands of dollars in school, worked full time, and went for it. Because of that, it brought me to where I am now. Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Everyone has a story and if you have followed mine, you know I came from Mexico at a very young age. My first language was Spanish and I grew up in a low-income household. I didn’t have the newest shoes or the coolest games all the time as a kid but my parents worked so hard to make sure we had a loving home to come home to. As an immigrant and as I got older, I didn’t know how I was going to make a living in America without my citizenship but I did know that I was going to find a way. My drive to be great and my passion to serve others is what has gotten me to where I am today. I do everything with integrity and I hold high expectations for myself and my business. It was not always easy, but when I have a challenge, I see it as an opportunity. I take a step back and ask myself, how can I learn from this? Once I change my mindset, everything around me changes. Another way I overcome challenges is by leaning on people that I trust. We cannot get through life alone because we are not meant to live life alone. Finding a group of people you can trust is such an imperative part of your success. When I meet anyone, I make sure to treat them with respect because you never know how they can help you in the future. They may become your friend or they become your mentor so it is important to live life with love in your heart and integrity.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Dallas. My wife challenges me and says there are better cities out there but I disagree. The places I would visit would be Truck Yard for a beer and good conversations. I would also visit Jaxon Beer Garden at the AT&T Plaza. For lunch I would visit go anywhere they sell barbeque. If they sell barbeque, I will instantly love the place. Another area for lunch I enjoy is Bishop Arts, it has grown so much since I have been here. For dinner, if we are thinking steak, I would go to Town Hearth, my wife and I love their food and the ambiance there is great! I also enjoy going to Katy Trail, go for a run and stop at Katy Trail ice house to treat ourselves! If Mavericks are playing, you will catch me at almost all their home games. I am a huge Mavericks fan, I even got Dirk to sign my arm and I have since gotten it tattooed! I believe Dallas has so much to offer and my wife and I enjoy going on random dates and I can honestly say we have visited almost every restaurant and bar in town.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, when it comes to doing anything in life, you need people. You need people around you who support you, encourage you, and challenge you. We cannot go through life thinking it is just us and we need no one. Someone who has always supported me and all my crazy ideas is my beautiful and talented wife. When times get tough, she is my rock, she is who I lean on. She handles everything that goes on behind the scenes, from the state paperwork, legal documentation to posting and editing my things for my social media. She has the best intuition and truly a genius. If I ever need advice on anything about anything, it is her that I call. There are times when I am stuck on something and I ask her and she immediately has an answer and solution. She always blows me away with her multi-tasking abilities. I don’t give her the credit she deserves but I thank her for everything, she is a huge part as to why my company is where it is today. Lastly, my brother Jose. He deserves so much credit as one of our top designers. I am so blessed to have someone who is not only family but also one of the top designers I know. He is one of my biggest inspirations and has always been my role model. Along with my wife, he is the only other person I know who has truly supported me all my endeavors.
