We had the good fortune of connecting with Chandler Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chandler, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks being present, whether you take them or they present themselves on they’re own, build character! I feel that there is a great reward in taking any risk that is why I welcome them. My belief is that with any risk you take, there is a consequence which could be a good or bad one. . Obviously there may be a good outcome from taking that risk, but even if it ends up not working out, you’ve at least allowed yourself to learn from it. What I always say is “If you don’t go, you won’t know”. Which to me means : if you don’t show up for yourself and take risks, you won’t ever reach your fullest potential. Give yourself 1,000 chances, and never give up! I’m my life, I’ve tried to learn from the risks I’ve taken that didn’t work out so the next time around, I don’t make the same mistake. But making those mistakes has surely helped me to even build my confidence in my career. I’ve noticed that I’ve gained a greater understanding from taking those risks. If I could give any piece of advice to anyone from my experience, pursue your dreams scared, pursue those risks , pursue the unknown because those situations that we are unfamiliar with or that are out of our confort zone with will be the ones that have the greatest benefit to us. When we stop trying to be in control of everything and allow our authentic self to show up, God and the universe will meet us there to aid us.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, I first would like to say, that I am most proud of pushing past my self doubt. With anything, doubting yourself does nothing but slow you down. So taking time to really believe in myself has been just a portion of what has carried me in most of what I’ve accomplished. Anything that you have a desire to do, because of it being a passion of yours, is never easy. I had to make up my mind that I would not focus solely on the money aspect of pursuing this endeavor to start Soulful Sweets Shoppe, but I would focus on perfecting my craft and doing what I love and believe that the money would come, which it is! Soulful Sweets Shoppe as a company, represents me as a person. It provides another Avenue for me to express myself through the creative process of creating desserts for everyone. I take my time with every dessert, and really use Soulful Sweets Shoppe as an opportunity to spread love. To me, my desserts give you an experience and I’m greatful for the creative sense that allows me to do what I love and be successful at it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I am still pretty new to Dallas, However, If I had the opportunity for my best friend to visit the city I would first stop for what I call “day drinking” at one of my favorite spots called “ TNT Tacos”, the rooftop at this place has really nice views and the overal vibe of the place is amazing. Then we would probably visit the Galleria Mall because I am a TRUE shopper, I will shop until I drop, get back up and do it again. As far as entertainment I would take them to visit a couple of my favorite spots to go hear some live music because in addition to my love for cooking, and baking, I’m also a music head. Music is also my happy place so we would visit Lava Cantina as well as The Free Man in Deep ellum. Both of those places provide great live music and a nice atmosphere to relax and enjoy yourself. Pangea in Garland is another place that I happen to like to eat for dinner and also a few other gems around the city. There is so much entertainment to choose from here in the city so it is really hard to choose!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to recognize my mother, as well as much of my family and friends for being such a great motivator and supporter of my endeavors. As we all know, pursuing your dreams is never easy so having people to cheer you on along the way helps a lot. One of the people that really helped me get started was Roxi Taylor. Which is a great friend of mine from Arizona. She is really helped me get the business side all setup and gave me great information to help me with my startup.
