We had the good fortune of connecting with Carmen Gagnon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carmen, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
I was only a month away from graduating cosmetology school back in 2018 when I found out I was pregnant and dropped out. I had my son and pursued another career before realizing I didn’t want my son to think I didn’t finish because of him. I went back in 2021 to graduate and joined a salon I only a few minutes where my son and I live. My son is now able to see me enjoy what I do for work everyday. He loves it when I do his hair or our family members hair.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As someone who struggles with mental health I love that my art can make someone else feel better about themselves. I love being able to put a smile on my clients faces or distract them from reality for a couple of hours.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For a fun night out on the town I love going to Deep Ellum for some yummy street tacos and arcade games at Select Start. I love all the fun game theme drinks. They even have alcohol mist filled balloons.

My favorite restaurants at the moment are Asian Mint and Fat Chicken.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am at today without the support from my classmates and educators at Aveda Arts and Science Institute of Dallas. Life can throw so many curve balls at you especially during a pandemic.
