We had the good fortune of connecting with Carly Melancon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carly, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was raised on a working ranch in south Texas where cowboyin’ and rodeo were our way of life.  Growing up on a cattle ranch, immersed in the cowboy lifestyle, not only teaches you how to work hard, it also instills perseverance in your soul. It’s a way of life that can’t be learned any other way than living it, and I think that’s the source of my authenticity when it comes to knowing the western world and creating pieces for the people in it. My dad was a silversmith and artist, so I grew up watching him work in his shop, much like my kids watch me now. I am very proud of my Texas roots and where I come from. Not many kids get to grow up like I did, and although I might not have appreciated it at the time, I am forever grateful for my south Texas cowboy roots that are evident in my work.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My shop is located outside of Huntsville, where I devote my days to designing and creating one of a kind statement pieces in the form of reimagined upholstery.  Using a variety of vintage hand woven Mexican blankets and rugs combined with cowhide and leather, each piece I make has a unique feel and personality.  The combinations of colors, patterns, and textures are endless.  In addition to the elaborately crafted furniture pieces, I  also have a line of western designed and upholstered benches, fringe vanities and step stools that I am extremely proud of.  I take an incredible amount of pride in the craftsmanship and attention to detail of each and every single piece that leaves my shop. From the get go, I never dreamed of having a huge company or several employees, but I did dream of creating the most incredible pieces of furniture and being the best at it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh that’s an easy one! We would stay at the Drover Hotel and hit up the historic Fort Worth Stockyards!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My incredibly supportive family, friends, and clientele who have supported me and given me the opportunity to pursue my passion.
