We had the good fortune of connecting with Carley Washington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carley, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work life balance has changed tremendously. I have been a full time Electrical Engineer for about 2 years, and I started my business about a year ago, next month. I would consider myself a workaholic for sure. I never stop thinking about what I can do to help my efficiency at work and for my business. Its been hard for me to say no to certain things, because I just want to do it all!
After starting my business I quickly learned that I needed new ways to stay organized and that sometimes I do just need to say no. Whether that may be taking a weekend off to enjoy time with friends, or do a little self care.
Balance isn’t easy but it is so important, especially when it comes to mental health.
I strongly believe that my best work comes when I make sure to feed my mind and body.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started my business in November of 2020. I’ve been baking pretty much my whole life for friends and family. Last year I thought I’d try to make cake pops and I brought them in to my team at work. They loved them and one of my coworkers suggested I start a business.
I thought why not and just did it. I’ve loved every second of it since then. I’ve attended a few vendor fairs here in the DFW area and the response I get when people first take a bite of my treats might be my favorite part of what I do.
Starting my own business has not been easy but it has been worth it. I love having something to call my own, and I love being able to be creative with what I do.
My treats (cake pops, cakes, cupcakes, cookies) not only taste delicious, but I spend time making sure they look my good too!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the Botanical Garden and the Fort Worth Zoo! There are tons of delicious food places here, but my favorite has to be Crab Station in Richardson! That place is my go to seafood spot for sure. Legacy Hall has some nice food choices as well

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to shoutout my family, friends, and my boyfriend. I don’t know where I would be without their constant support and love.
