We had the good fortune of connecting with Candace Nicholson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candace, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
There is a homeless ministry that serves the Downtown Ft Worth area called Jesus Freaks in the Streets or JFinTS for short. They have been serving the Fort Worth Community for over 10 years now, and I have been so blessed to volunteer with this group. It is my mission, to use the blessings that I’ve been given and work for to help others, and I do that for JFinTS. Outside of volunteering and donating on my own, every year I have two sales, and a portion of the money made goes to this organization. I make blessing bags filled with everyday essentials like toothbrush/paste, soap, lotion, food, etc and then during the Christmas holiday, JFinTS does a big duffle bag ministry, where volunteers fill duffle bags with daily essentials, plus sleeping bags, gloves, hats and items to keep them warm during the cold months. I also donate clothes given to me by friends and family. As long as i am a business owner, i will use my platform to help take care of those in need.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love what I do!!! The foundation of my “why?”, the reason I do what I do, is that I want to make jewelry in hopes that the pieces will make others feel loved, and as if the piece or pieces of jewelry they are wearing, was made especially for them. That’s what I want the world to know. That for me, it’s not about just selling a product, it’s about making an impact on my customers and the community. The journey hasn’t always been easy though. Recently, I went through a rough time of a creative block. Trying to keep up and create fresh, new pieces, and it just did not come as easy for me like it had in the past. What i learned was that it’s okay to take a break. It’s okay to take a step back, breathe and try to find inspiration around you and I did just that. I went on a creative retreat, took some time away from home to explore the cities around me and find inspiration. It was just what I needed, a weekend away, and because of that weekend, I came back home, to my business with a new perspective.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite things to do in Denton is the annual Denton Jazz and Arts Festival. It’s so lively and there is so much to see and do. It would be fun to walk around, eat some great food, check out all of the creative vendors, then find a comfy spot on the grass and listen to live music. Anyone that knows me, knows that my favorite food is Mexican Food! So i would definitely take them to Taqueria Moctezuma in Irving. They have amazing birria tacos!

We could walk around the Denton Square and check out all of the different shops and small businesses or venture out to The Bishop Arts District in Dallas and check out many amazing stores and restaurants. I also love visiting farmers markets and think checking out the Denton Community Market and the Four Seasons Market in Flower Mound would. There is so much talent around and where better to see it displayed and have the opportunity to support small local businesses.

The adventures around town are endless, but one last thing i think would be a lot of fun is spending the day at LIttle Elm Beach. We could pack up the car with all of the picnic essentials and spend the day relaxing by the water.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be where I am and who I am without first, my mother, Evelyn. She is my rock, my biggest cheerleader and I am beyond blessed to have her in my life. She has always believed in me and supported me. My mom is the hardest working person I know, and she also has the biggest heart towards others. I hope that I can be half of the woman she is and that I make her proud. I have also been extremely blessed by my family and best friends, who are my chosen family. Each and every one of them have been in my corner since the very beginning and to this day, encouraging, pushing and supporting me. They are all so different, and each of them inspire me in many ways. I hope they each know just how much they mean to me, and it’s my heart that I can encourage support and inspire them as they all follow their dreams and pursue their purpose.
