We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Hare and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It was back in 2001 when I was going to some local car shows with my 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST and meet a guy who was selling some car care products called Zaino. I helped him sell the products at car events and got to know many people during that time who had nice cars and like to keep them clean. Had a guy come up to me that just had some surgery on his arm and asked me how much I would charge to come to his home and detail his corvette with the Zaino car care products. I had to think a bit and came up with a price and scheduled it for the upcoming weekend as I had a full time web developer/designer job at the time. Showed up to his place and detailed his corvette, my very first vehicle to detail that was not my own and absolutely loved it, loved being able to see the transformation take place right in front of my eyes. The guy called me on Tuesday and said he was very pleased and happy but had an issue with his wife. She now wanted her vehicle detailed, so I scheduled it for the upcoming weekend. While I was working on her car, a neighbor came out and started chatting with me. He said I have seen you out here the last two weekends and I am very impressed with what I have seen. Can you detail my vehicle? So the next day I went back out, detailed his vehicle and he said that his brother-n-law just got a brand new Ferrari and asked if I was interested. At this moment I knew in my head that this is what I wanted to do. I could work on awesome cars, do something that I could see a major transformation, wear what I wanted to wear and make my own hours. It was a no-brainer. I quit my day job and I started working out of my 2001 BMW 330ci going to homes and detailing vehicles. I knew I had hit something big! Here it is 2020 and I am still one of the top tier detailing companies in Dallas/Fort Worth.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my company in Spring of 2002. I had a 2001 BMW 330ci that I loaded full of detailing equipment like vacuum, water hose, electrical cords, all kinds of car care products and I would drive from house to house each day detailing and waxing vehicles in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. Heard that phrase, at the right place and the right time? This is my story and I just happened to be in the right place, doing something at the perfect time to realize I could quit my day job and start doing mobile detail and actually make a good living doing it. It wasn’t until 2013 when I was contacted by a good client asking if I could restore a 1945 Aston Martin that had been sitting for over 40+ years in a barn. I was super excited and up for any challenge. I told him sure, and he said, well there is a catch. There is a show called Fast N Loud that is on Discovery Channel, and they want to film the entire detail restoration, however you won’t make a dime off this but this is a million dollar advertisement for your company and to show the world your skillset. I was game and ended up being the “Buff Monkey” filming with the Gas Monkey Garage crew from 2013 till 2016. It was an amazing experience and it really showed the world just what I was capable of doing. Thanks to the popularity of the show, I was able to rent a small 1500 sqft shop just down the street from Gas Monkey to take on the massive calls of people all over the United States that had these old hotrods, barn finds and just luxury and exotic vehicles they wanted me to doWerkz on. The very next year I was out of room at this shop and added another 1500 sqft to my shop to take on even more work. Ever since 2013 It has just been a blessing and growing each year to take on more and more work from all over the world. Now I am in a 7800sqft detail shop that I custom built with a state of the art 2-vehicle enclosed clean room where we can do our Paint Protection Film (PPF) installs, our vinyl wrap color changes, and our premier window tinting installation. The room is self contained and dust proof with a state of the art air filtration system over 100 LED lights on the walls and ceilings for the ultimate in perfection in our work and two scissor lifts to raise the vehicles for the best possible work environment. We are specialized in ceramic coatings, PPF, window tint, vinyl accents and full solid color change on vehicles. We also do custom audio/video integration as well as we are an authorized Passport radar installation center for Texas. We are so excited to see what 2021 has in store for us here at Detail Werkz Dallas. We would be honored for you to stop by and check us out! Our slogan says it all. “Quality is not expensive, it’s priceless”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly I dont get out much. I work about 15-18 hour days Monday-Friday with my wife at the shop. We have put all our blood, sweat and tears into the shop and we have sacrificed so much to build my company Detail Werkz Dallas to what it is today. We enjoy going to the Texas Rangers base ball games and rooting the guys on. When we do have friends or family come visit, we like to get some front row seats and take on a good ball game. Always have to go to Dunstons steak house off Harry Hines for a good mesquite smoked steak after the game. There are so much to do in this metroplex. Every place you go from north, south, east and west there are hundred of activities, nightlife and amazing food places to go and enjoy.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate and shoutout to my wife. We met in 2012 and since the day we met, she has always been right next to my side and has always encouraged me when I would get down, she would always push me when I was on hour 18 and still had 3 more hours to give to complete a vehicle project. She not only takes care of our two boys, but she also works side by side with me and handles all our paint protection film installations at the shop. She is my best friend, my lover and I am so blessed to have her in my life. So shout out to her, without her I just am not sure where I would be today! She is my rock and my salvation.
