We had the good fortune of connecting with Brett Waters and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brett, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am originally from California and moved to the DFW area at a very young age. (insert California joke here)

Growing up I always looked up to both of my parents.

My dad was in the flooring industry, consistently traveling, and working late-night hours. He was up before me and went to bed way after me every night. I was intrigued by his work and was counting down the days until I was old enough to have a grown-up job. The summer between my junior and senior year of high school I went to my dad and said I was ready for a 9-5 job. What can I do? I interviewed at a multifamily flooring company and I got the job! It was not easy by any means but I LOVED it. I worked for a small business, I immediately knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur. The company supported my intentions to become a small business owner myself. They were sure to teach me everything about the company. Fast forward to today and my dad and I have a wholesale flooring company located in Dallas, TX. We are blessed with support from our manufacturing partners and customers. We enjoy creating a simple and educational flooring experience for our customers.

My mom was a stay-at-home mom which is no easy task. I looked up to her nurturing personality. I always felt safe. I loved my baby sister and couldn’t wait to have my own kids. As I got older I realized not everyone’s parents were like mine. Some kids didn’t feel safe or happy and I knew wanted to help children who were in need of love and safety. I often wondered how I would ever be a small business owner and great mama like my mom. Luckily, I knew my mom would always be there for me and my kids. She wanted to see my dreams come true but knew raising kids in a nurturing home was a big part of my goals. Currently, my husband, my son, and I are fostering two amazing children. We have a ton of support from his family and my family. The kids are smart, funny, sweet, and sassy.

My parents impacted me the most as to who I am today. I wanted the nurturing personality of my mom and the relentless work ethic like my dad. It is hard to balance the two but lucky for me, I have an amazing support system/cheer squad in my corner.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My sister now lives in DC and often visits for a week or so at a time. We try our best to squeeze in as much as we can each time she is here. However, the first stop is always living the dream tattoo. A good Mexican food dinner or lunch is always in order. Angelina’s is a favorite. An outing such as a Top Golf or Medieval Times. Bruch and Tupelo Honey. Trip to the Perot Museum with my son Ashton. Last but not least a steak dinner at Dee Lincoln’s.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Rachel Hollis is the person who really made me get off the couch and chase my dreams. If it doesn’t make you say “Hell yes, then why are you doing it?” From that point forward I only wanted to do things that I was extremely excited about in life.
