Meet Breakfield and Burkey | Award-Winning, Best Selling, fictional co-authors Breakfield & Burkey

We had the good fortune of connecting with Breakfield and Burkey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charles Breakfield and Rox Burkey, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Through our fictional writing we want to help alert adults to the potential pitfalls of unsecure information sharing. Our years in technology with several manufacturers provides us a unique view of the good and bad sides of technology. We think the simple things like changing passwords, not clicking on unknown links, and sharing unknown social media posts are possible avenues for hackers to hurt people.
Our human community can look out and support one another. It is a diverse world we live in and respect for each other is key to understanding our difference and our similarities. We love people of all ages, sizes, and points of view. We respect peoples opinions even if we disagree. As long as we are communicating, there is the possiblity of better understanding.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Our writing began with technical whitepapers for customers when we worked as consultants for technology manufacturers. Auerbach approached us for dozens of technical papers as well as non-fiction technical books. With the rapid change of technology, we decided fiction writing a more desirable platform. Rox wanted us to create technical thrillers with current technology to share information to readers to protect their digital footprints. Unfortunately, Auerbach wasn’t accepting fiction, so we decided Indie publishing was our best avenue. We created a small publishing company as well, ICABOD Press. We believe that the technical threats of today’s world need to be shared with the community using storytelling. Finding the technology threats provides never ending fodder for our stories. Each novel has a main threat while the cyber heroes battle cyber thugs. In our case the R-Group are our heroes. The good news is that each story is unique and stands alone, with characters who evolve—exactly like life.
As Indie Authors we retain full creative control over our property. This results in our need to stay aware of the current book publishing and marketing mandates. We are constantly learning how to better communicate our brand.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly, our favorite part of the city are our Dallas homes. We live in the same neighborhood but separate homes. We orchestrate and host fun events like Cook-a-thons, author networking parties, cookie baking, and wine making. Our families hunt fun, interesting recipes, to secure the ingredients to deliver the desired goal. Just like our storytelling.
No city viewing of Dallas is complete without visiting Reunion Tower, exploring a pub crawl up McKinney Avenue, or snacking the best oysters or spicy shrimp cocktail at Hook, Line, and Sinker. Dallas and greater DFW is highlighted in some of our stories.
Charles loves to load up his Harley, named Swan, and traverse the winding roads of Central/South Texas. We weave some of his riding adventures into our stories. When you spot these, send us and email at Authors@EnigmaSeries.com and tell us how to reach you and we’ll email you something fun.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We want to humbly shoutout to the army of readers, editors, and authors along with technologists who ask for more and better with each story. Our graphic designer, Rebecca Finkel uses a brilliant approach to distinctive final covers and interiors to our ebooks and paperbacks while maintaining our branding. Editors and beta readers who make great suggestions, while providing their point of views are critical for our work. Let us also shout-out Derek Shoales, our Voice Actor of the Enigma Series audibles. Last but not least our social media maven, Aimee Ravichandran helps keep our buzz sizzling, so readers and reviewers share—you must read Breakfield & Burkey thrillers. We love comments, contact and reviews from readers.
