We had the good fortune of connecting with BIG J. ALL DAY and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi BIG J. ALL DAY, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
This is actually a very good question because many people do not know where I’m from. I am from Houston, Texas. Also known as H-Town. I wouldn’t be who I am today without being from a musically orientated city, like Houston. Sometimes I think there must be something in the water that produces the high level of creative and talented artist like Houston does. Houston produces natural-born go-getters. Focused and driven to be the best at their craft. Artist are willing to work the extra hours and hustle a little harder to stand out from the crowd. That is Houston. I definitely learned so much from H-TOWN especially the truly valuable things of life like working hard, putting family first, developing meaningful friendships, collaborating and sharing music-based ideas and so much more. I am who I am today because of being born and raised in Houston, Texas!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
To say the least, I’m excited about a so many things. Every day I wake up, excited just to be alive and being able to create, do and be. I got where I am today by a pure will and dedication. I refuse to give up under any circumstances. I always try to do my best. Always looking out for others. And this is definitely not easy, by any means. I have spent many of sleepless nights, many times going back to the drawing board and up with another plan. So many things have happened that would’ve made 90% of people quit a long time ago. I have overcome many of my challenges by faith. My mother who is my number one supporter, and so many friends and positive people who have given me great advice have push me forward their words of motivation. Some valuable lessons that I’ve learned along the way are number one I’m not ever quitting or, never giving up on your dream and on your passions. Always, always, do your best, no matter if it’s for one person or 1 million people do the same quality work for everyone. And quality over quantity, always shoot for high-quality spins over the quantity. I would want the world to know that I am just a hard-working dude that didn’t ever give up on his dreams, always followed his heart, his passions, and always looked out for others while remaining positive no matter what.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wow, this is a great question. I’ll probably start off by taking them to the Kitchen Recording Studio and an area of Dallas called East Dallas. Maybe just to make a couple beats write a song record and have some fun. Then following that we would probably head out to Deep Ellum and grab some barbecue. After that, we probably head up to Uptown and drop in on the Black Friar Pub. Have a couple of beers and after that we probably go check out a Mavericks game at the American Airlines Center or check out the Stars game. By that time we just now be getting the night started lol and only the Lord knows where we would end up after that. I would also love to go to Oak Cliff Brewery or hit up Oak Cliff Cultivators for a good night cap lol
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shout out to my #1, MY MOTHER ! I’d also like to give a shoutout to all my friends and family that’s supported me and helped me in anyway. I’d like to thank all the Clubs, Bars, and Venues that book me and always have me out DJing or Performing and Selling my Merch! Last but definitely not least I’d like to thank the Good Lord!
