We had the good fortune of connecting with Ayanna Crayton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ayanna, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking has played a big role in my career. From the very beginning of starting my business, i took a big risk quitting my job to start. Working was draining me at that point and i knew that i didn’t want my now career, to just be my “side hustle”. So in May 2019 after a lot of research and learning i turned my hustle into my career. I’m still taking risks today, but every risk I’ve taken has brought me to a higher level and gotten me to where i am right now in my career.

What should our readers know about your business?
I used to always watch my mom do hair when i was younger and i was always very interested. After my first time helping my mom do braids for a family friend, I started braiding by myself at 14 yrs old. At 18 in May of 2019 after quitting my job, I got hired at my 1st shop and have been braiding full time ever since. It was not easy I did/& do face challenges being as young as i am trying to navigate and learn everything as a young entrepreneur. Without God and perseverance I wouldn’t be where i am today. Through the times I was booked 100% for months to the time I had zero clients for weeks, I just knew that I couldn’t give up on myself or my business. Through the times where i wanted to just give up or through the self doubts of whether or not braiding and starting a business was the best move for me; For every time i got knocked down, i learned and found new ways to elevate and get me back on track with my goals. It gets very hard sometimes but now I’m 21 yrs old with my own suite and i know it doesn’t just stop here. I’m just a young black female trying to break generational curses and create generational wealth for me and my family. I’m excited to see how much bigger my brand gets over the years and can’t wait to show the world what TheYannaExperience is all about and has in store these upcoming years!♥️

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Andretti for sure just to have some fun and let out our inner kid lol. I myself don’t eat out much, so we would have to just explore and find a new place together we like . For drinks I’d take them to the Candy Shack for a little fruity drink with a buz. We also will just hang out at the house and try cooking a new recipe we maybe stole off of TikTok lol but we’d have a good personal time together like we’d normally have. I’m still getting into the habit of going out and living my life so when that time comes I’ll then be able to name places and new experiences.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to Brittaney Weber owner of BratBraidz! I am really grateful to her for taking me under her wing and mentoring me. She has given me a lot of good tips and showed me great techniques to make my work better/easier. Also to my friends and loved ones who have believed in me and motivated me, It all keeps me going. ♥️
