Meet Asia Currie-Clay | Choreographer, Model, & Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Asia Currie-Clay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Asia, why did you pursue a creative career?
As a child I always was inspired by those who were creatives. I believe it can be extremely liberating to consistently express yourself. To be paid and appreciated for your art all in the same moment is a indescribable feeling. Honestly, even just seeing your art on a large platform is breathtaking. The first time I saw myself in a music video, Surf by Yung Xayy, I cried. Often, we are told that following the dream of becoming any type artist won’t provide a satisfying life. Of course we may all experience the “struggling artist” lifestyle. But, I truly believe that consistency in your craft will inevitably result in success. Regardless if I see that success in my lifetime or not, I am proud of the things I have created and how those things have impacted the people around me. If you’re reading this and you have been looking for a sign to start your creative career…. this is it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Cre.a.tive
I feel like all my avenues found me. Dance has been ingrained in me since i was a child. One of my oldest memories is of me watching T.V. and I saw Micheal Jackson for the first time. I was mesmerized. With no hesitation I told my family, “I WANT TO DANCE LIKE THAT!”. Though I could not afford to dance as a child, I started at 15 and will never stop as long as I am alive. Crocheting became my hustle out of a struggle. I used my pieces to not only help me pay for college, but provide me with new clothes when I could not afford them myself. With photography… where do i start lol. I actually started capturing moments in college as an intern for Langston University and I fell in love with it. Theres is nothing more moving than the smile on a person face when the light is hitting!! From there I was able to begin my modeling career and was recently signed to Eiram Model Management.
The road has not been easy. I was forced to relocate unexpectedly during the pandemic to the DFW causing me to quit my job. With the world shutting down I immediately went into grind mode and without thought CreACEtions was born. At times i felt like a failure, I cried, I got angry, I was overwhelmed. My support system was really important for me during those low moments. Constant words of affirmation and reassurance can be detrimental to an entrepreneur. These moments will come and go, but now I have the resources and support to combat them.
Cre.ACE.tion
My brand is me. Want to know who i am? What am I am about? What pushes me? CreACEtions. I’ve always strived to be #1 in everything I do (even during the projects where everything is going wrong). CreACEtions is safe place not just for me but for all creatives who want to take that leap of faith. I’ve had to learn that not everyone is going flow on the same beat. Even though I might create something that is nothing what envisioned – that doesn’t mean it was not meant to be seen and loved by another person.
AceNation is my persona, she is fearless. She takes on all challenges head on. She is a collaboration of everything that makes me a powerhouse. When I produce anything with the name of AceNation – know that it was made with much thought, love, and *umph*. I would like to think that when others see me or my projects, they are reminded that you can do anything you put your mind to – you just need the confidence to do it.
In conclusion, I want all those taking the time to read this article to know;
You are so much more than the hesitation that is holding you back from becoming the person you want to be. The next time an idea pops into your head – complete it. Whether it is completely horrible or not, complete it then try again. Remember, you can never be a professional until you start as an amateur.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Though I have only been in the DFW for a short time, I have found some of the most amazing gems out here! So I’ve mapped out a few things we would have to do.
I am a HUGE foodie, so I would love to showcase the AMAZING food in the DFW. Here are a few of my favorites;
Jamacian Gates
Turkey D.A.M
Aunt Irene’s (A MUST)
To Relax: Koffee Day Spa, Black Girl Magic Museum, The Dojo Dallas
If we’re feeling spontaneous: Zero Latency, Pinstack, or a picnic at White Rock Lake
If its one of my artistic friends: A random photoshoot, a dance class hosted by me at Palace Dance Center or a modeling class at Eiram Model Management.
Regardless, before they go, I have to show them how Dallas does BRUNCH! We would go down to Deep Ellum and stop by a few of my favorite places; Stirr & Bitter Ends

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be who I am without everyone who has come in contact with me. I appreciate any and all those I interact with, whether it was good or bad. Each life lesson has been impactful. I would like to give a very important shout out to my biggest supporter, my boyfriend, Jabril Bailey. He is the person who brought me down to the DFW area a year ago and I have not looked back since. I probably wouldn’t have this current interview opportunity without him.
My love, I could never repay you for the support you have provided me during my lowest. You are truly appreciated and I love you so much.
