We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelica Arvizu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angelica, what do you attribute your success to?
i think the value of the audience that i’m trying to connect to is most important to me because at the time when i had started creating hair content for instagram and tiktok there wasn’t a lot of alternative hairdressers in my area, so it was important for me to create a comfortable space for unconventional people to get their hair done. i found my niche on tiktok connecting through music that i used in the background of my videos. Along with bringing back a lot of old school hairstyles that were thriving in the 2000s!!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
i specialist in vivid hair and i create a lot of content on tiktok that attracts a lot of y2k inspired looks and aesthetics and presentation means a lot to me. ive been doing hair since i was 18 years old, and i was only cutting hair and doing a lot of men’s cuts. i didnt take myself seriously for a long time but i always had an itch to pursue more creatively. it was definitely not easy to take the leap to become a hair colorist because i was very afraid to damage peoples hair lol!! For a long time I was dealing with a lot of mental health issues and decided to get help for my depression, anxiety and ocd. Along the way I learned I needed to become sober to help myself heal and deal with my issues. I owe ALOT to my career to being sober. Most times things get very tough with learning how to run a business and balancing my personal life. At the end of the day I push myself forward bc I don’t have the option to give up. I don’t have a back up plan so I push myself as much as I can every day.
ive learned a lot of self discipline along the way and how to uphold the business side of being independent. i would want the world to know that i do everything with a lot of passion and love and that i put my love in everything i create
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ahhh I love this question!!!! The Dallas community is where the heart is!
I would definitely start my day with my bestie with a coffee date at the salty in oak cliff!
My favorite drink and snack are an iced vanilla latte with half and half along with a jalapeño kolache!!!
Afterwards we would most likely hit up the Dallas art museum! The DMA always has the best installations.
If we were to get hungry for some lunch we could go back to oak cliff for some tacos at tacos la Gloria!!! Those are the best!
Night time is when I gets the most exciting.
For dinner we would hit up fachini! Fachini has the best chefs and the best staff! Everyone there has so much heart and not to mention that the food is amazing.
Lastly for a night out it would depend on the day!
Paradise is an easy shout out. It’s held in the heart of bishop arts and it’s an amazing party that happens a Sunday once a month. If not definitely meet me underground in Fort Worth. It’s a bit of a drive but it’s the best underground party that is in the DFW.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out to my fellow hair besties who I have met through TikTok. We all can connect through our work and support. The community amongst us is the best thing ever. We are always there in each others comments, reposting, and resharing each others work. We have so much love within each other and it’s crazy that we all met through online Love!!
