We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Kane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
So one of the best habits I’m learning currently is to grow in my integrity. I know that may seem almost rudimentary and even odd to hear because this should be a given, but hear me out. It’s not only the trust we build with others as we collaborate, do business with or get hired, but it is also our ability to see out the disciplines we create in our daily life. I’ve heard this quote said many ways before but it’s something like, “I’d be weary of someone who wants to change the world if they aren’t making their bed.” I’m learning how important this character trait is. It’s our integrity that keeps us on top of our disciplines and it’s our discipline that’s help us maintain and even multiply what is in front of us, whether that’s financially, relationally, or spiritually. There is still so much more about this trait I’m looking forward to learning. Really catching the importance of this concept propels me want forever grow in this concept.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Again being a multidisciplinary creative there is so much I do and have interest in. I do hair, I am a videographer and editor, I am a builder who loves hydroponic gardening and vermicomposting but, the forefront of what I do as a creative is I’m a singer songwriter/rapper and I produce as well. I’ve been involved in music for almost 15 years. I just realized one day that I wanted to do music so I really set my heart out to do it. My personality is set up that way, usually when I want to do something I’ll find a way to do it and that was just as true in my earlier years as it is today. This has been a very long road with some goods, some ugly, some unbelievable but over all it has been worth it. I’ve grown so much and as I’ve grown so has my craft. I’ve gained more clarity on the purposes of my craft and there is still so much that is unfolding because I’m walking in new territory with my music. In years past music was more of an inward truth being expressed outwardly for the sole purpose of sharing my story, and now I feel like music is like a seed being split many ways, especially in the creating process. Every stage serves its purpose and has intention. If I’m creating a song, there’s purpose in it for the listener, those I’m collaborating with, and myself. It’s no longer just about me trying to get heard but really me stewarding the gift, the process, and the people I’m in contact with. I want those around me to be inspired to do what they feel called to do fearlessly, even if it doesn’t make sense for a really long time.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well there are a few spots I’d have to definitely take them. First up on the list we’d grab some coffee we could hit ip summer moon or my new favorite breakfast spot Ascension coffee right next to the trinity trail. Speaking of the trail I’d take them on an awesome briar stroll. Afterwards could go to west 7th and have velvet taco or maybe hit up rodeo goat. Then we probably want to walk downtown and see what’s happening there check out the beautiful lights and skyscrapers. Then we may hit up and outlet mall or two closest one to me is alliance and it’s outdoor as well! Major plus. Then we’d hit up Dallas and head to bishop arts one of my favorite areas in all of DFW. I’m still newer to DFW so we probably still have so much more to discover together !
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout AXL Creative Co. A creative company birthed in DFW. This community of creatives, leaders, and entrepreneurs has been such a stable rock for me in the last couple of years. The founder Jasmine Tate has really been such a solid leader and mentor for me. I love her heart for those around her, the people she leads and her heart for God, she has helped grow me and stretched me to do more than I could imagine. This community has really helped me recognize my “why” as a creative and is helping me unfold so much more about what that looks like in my life and how it affects those around me.
