We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Castro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Actually knowing that this was my passion was not difficult to discover since since I discovered the world of balloons in 2015 I fell madly in love with this, what was a challenge was moving to this country and making the decision to start once again in this adventure, inside I knew that I was going to achieve it but we were going through a global pandemic and the obstacles to start a new path or venture for me was terrifying. I never lost faith in myself but already making the decision made me think overtime hours and hours
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, a brief introduction, Sugarballoons started in 2015 in my country Venezuela, and from the first time I worked with them I knew that it was what I liked, first as a hobby and then commercially. In 2017 I moved to the United States and one of the few things I brought with me in my luggage was my inflator and calibrator because I knew that sooner or later Sugarballoons would be part of my future. It was not easy to make the decision to start again in a country in another language, but I prepared myself to achieve it! Also, I started in 2020, a difficult year for everyone, but I firmly believe that when things are done with passion and love, nothing is impossible, and believe me when every creation that leaves my workshop for my clients has a stamp of love printed on it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love everything about my city, but without a doubt a must-see is the Forth Worth Stockyard! The Texas cowboy essence is there! Then we would walk to the downtown, it is full of beautiful art and buildings, like the Reunion Tower (one of my favorites) The Legacy West is always a good place to eat and walk and even more so during Christmas time, it is simply incredible.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely! there are many people who have helped me on this wonderful path, without a doubt my family but I have to give credit where credit is due to my mother, Neluis, who was the one who always supported me and paid for my first course when I was only 17 years old! Then to my partner Armando who is there supporting me and believing in me since 2013 in all my dreams, and there is my sister Valeria, she doesn’t know that she has been an important part of my motivation.
