We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Blackston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I originally started A2B in 2017 as A2B Administrative Support Services, and would conduct business after my full-time job each day. At the time, I worked as an Administrative Assistant for a local non-profit and I had the best boss. He would always tell me “You’re a champion! You can do anything! I’ve never had an admin like you!”. His affirmation meant the world to me and really inspired me to give virtual assisting a try. I figured, if I truly had the gift of administration, I should use it to help many more people. My goal was to help people get from point A to point B. I also chose the name A2B because of my initials, “A.B.” After a bit of thought and advice from people I trusted, I decided to give it a shot. I created my own website, business cards, flyers, and welcome packets. I went through the process of reserving my business name with the state of Texas and setting up my business as a sole proprietorship. I didn’t have a defined niche just yet, so I went with what I know: non-profits. I began to market my services, which were initially web design, general administrative tasks, and social media management. Within my first two months, I had five signed contracts in effect. While I enjoyed providing virtual support, I found it difficult to juggle my full-time job, grad school, and other obligations, so I decided to take a bit of time off. Once the contracts had ended, I shifted my focus for a season because I knew that I couldn’t pour from an empty cup. Lots of life happened between the time I took a step back and the time I decided to re-launch my business.

Fast forward to July of 2022, I made the decision to give A2B a try again. My vision was to make it bigger, bolder, and better than before. I completely re-branded and re-launched, knowing it needed to go to the next level. As a firm believer that two are better than one, I invited my mother and sister along for the ride and they are now my co-founders for A2B Simple Solutions LLC. We are now a trio of virtual assistants who couldn’t be happier to provide exemplary services to businesses nationwide. Between the three of us, we have over 30 years of experience in administration, customer service, and more. We aim to work with clients who are in the business of helping people. We love to help those who are helping others! Our three-tiered approach of Prioritization, Organization, and Implementation allows us to seamlessly take our clients from point A to point B, and do so with excellence, simplicity, and efficiency.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

We meet twice a week as a team to discuss our wins, goals, areas for improvement, and strategy for the following days. These meetings started out as simple afternoon walks, but they’ve truly morphed into business meetings and we look forward to them. One conversation that I’ll never forget was on the topic of our “Why”. It was one of the most empowering conversations because we each got to share why we wanted to start this business. The common denominator that we heard was surrounding the concept of helping others get to their next level. We really believe this is the purpose of A2B. Of course, it is nice to work from home, or to be able to work from a new city, but at the end of the day our “Why” is to provide relief for those who are in the business of helping others. Discovery calls are our favorite because we get to hear our clients’ stories, their why, and their pain points. These calls truly lay the foundation for a strong business relationship.

Our encouragement to readers is to never forget your “Why”. Sometimes the process between where you are and where you desire to be is long and hard. In those moments, remember why you started in the first place. Someone or something was worth your “YES”, those long days, and determination and commitment to the end goal. Sometimes we simply have to remind ourselves that the space between point A and point B is called resilience, consistency, and perseverance. You got this!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We’d like to dedicate our shoutout to our grandmother, Jeanette Blackston. She has always been a constant source of encouragement, wisdom, and guidance. When we told her about our new business venture, she couldn’t contain her excitement. She never misses an opportunity to let us know she believes in us, and we consider her to be the wind beneath our wings!
