We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Brooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alyssa, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
From the time I could hold a hair brush as a little girl I always knew I wanted to pursue a career in something that had to do with making others feel beautiful. What that something was I wasn’t sure. I decided from a young age I would attend cosmetology school through a program in high school, I ended up graduating from both in 2018. From there I decided to attend Texas Tech University and was grateful for the opportunity to earn extra money through the trade I had learned. I fell into the tanning industry in college when I realized how popular it was, and as someone who is very pale and can’t tan, I also loved it myself. I started out doing tans, hair cuts, and whatever else I could to make money around my college schedule. I soon realized college wasn’t for me and that I would just end up doing something in the beauty industry anyways even if I did get a degree. I knew I had a love and passion for airbrush tans, but wasn’t sure how that would fit in my life in the future. I left college with the plan to stay out of debt, I offered tanning services from that time on. I welcomed my first little boy shortly after leaving college and wanted to find a career that I loved and fit mine and my families needs. My mother-in-law owns a Medical Spa in Denton and I came to her with the idea of offering airbrush tanning in her spa. She didn’t have the space needed, however she offered an amazing opportunity to partner and take over an airbrush tanning business that a friend was ready to part with.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I think what really sets us apart from others is our availability. We are not just an in-store Tanning Salon, we drive all over the metroplex to meet your needs. It doesn’t matter if it is a last minute tan for a vacation, or if you need us to come to your office, home, or a wedding venue, we will be there. We want people to know they can put their trust in us to deliver a high- quality service they can rely on. We create personal relationships with our clientele so they can always feel comfortable to reach out to us for any of their needs.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I always seem to find my way over to LSA. The square in Denton is such a beautiful area for shopping, food, drinks, ice-cream, and entertainment. Beth Marie’s is always a favorite. If I were to go outside of Denton, I love Grandscape in the Colony. Scheels is a lot of fun to walk around and shop. I’ve never had a bad meal in that area, Kai is one of my favorite restaurants for special occasions. The Puttery mini-golf and Andrettis indoor Karting and games is great for entertainment.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My success is really difficult to pinpoint to just on person in my life. I’ve been blessed to have support from so many family and friends but a couple people I would like to shed some light on are: my mother, She’s been my number one supporter and motivator my entire life. She’s always pushed me to be the best version of myself and has been the perfect example of what it means to be a hard worker, often working multiple jobs. My husband has helped me so much through my entire pursuit and has supported me through any and everything, even chasing me to Lubbock while I was going to college. I Also want to give a very important shoutout to my mother in-law Kristie Brooks owner of NTX Aesthetics, She has played such a major role in the revival of my dream of being a business owner and has helped put Tantrum back on the map in DFW. With her partnership and support we’ve passed milestones! There is so much that goes into running a business and without her and my father-in-laws knowledge, love, and belief in me, this dream wouldn’t be possible.
