We had the good fortune of connecting with Alastair Hunte and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alastair, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my first business at the age of 13, so I’ve always been an entrepreneur. Over 32 years later, I still follow the formula of “find a need, then fill a need.” I use a combination of the gifts that God has given me and the opportunities that he puts in my path.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Being an entrepreneur is not easy, but it’s worth it. Being able to go with the flow of business, knowing when to take risks, being willing to do the unknown, and having patience in the down times are the key.

As of now I have three main businesses:

My main business for over 20 years is Alastair Hunte Consulting, which is a Web Development, Print Marketing, and Business Coaching firm.

I am a partner in The Loft Podcast and Recording Studio, which is an audio, video, and recording studio. We help with everything from the idea phase to the post-editing of podcast and video projects.

Nutrition Avenue is a Health and Wellness coaching business owned by my wife and I. (www.visitnutritionave.com)

The thing that makes all of our businesses different is our high attention to customer service. In all three we start with the client’s needs, and if they are not a good fit – we don’t move forward. We would rather refer a customer to another option or tell them they aren’t a good fit than develop a relationship simply to make money.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, Six Flags of Texas, Bob’s Steakhouse in the Shops at Legacy, Rick’s Chophouse Downtown McKinney.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The first shout-out I’d like to give is to my parents, who have always been my main role models and support system. As a retired educator of almost 40 years, she taught me leadership, patience, and how to relate to people. My dad taught me how to work hard, find opportunities in everything, and achieve goals while still caring about people. The second shout-out would be to the MANY mentors that I have in life. Starting as a young man, my parents have always paired me with mentors who could help me with whatever I was interested in. They are not technology people (at all), so when I showed an interest in computers they found mentors in the computer industry. This is why I mentor others at every chance that I’m given. It’s my way of paying it forward.

Finally, I can’t end the shout-outs without giving one to my wife. She is a super mom, amazing wife, my biggest fan and the center of my support system.
