We had the good fortune of connecting with Aja Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aja, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always had so many interests up my sleeve that I’m honestly pretty good at, naturally. Beauty and self care do have my heart however. I’ve always had a passion for all things hair. I taught myself how to braid around 7years old and went to youtube university for my natural hair journey back in 7th grade and hadn’t looked back ever since. I usually would braid and style my own hair as well, helping out friends and family. Once the pandemic hit us, I decided to take my hobby more seriously and branch out to accepting clients, and here we are today!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I technically have a full on enterprise in which I focus on hair braiding/dressing, makeup services, modeling services, and catering services. I am in the process of adding real estate services to the menu but I’m still learning the art of taking it one step at a time and to master one arena before moving along.

I decided to create a business and put together my passions that I excel and are yet lucrative. I genuinely do not see myself working to build someone else’s dreams in the long haul. When it comes to every passion I have I can say I am honestly self taught, which I believe sets me apart from others. As of recently, I have looked into courses/classes to help me reach mastery expertise in each of these arenas as I’m naturally slightly a perfectionist.

As cliche as it sounds I truly have always been a hard worker, a busy body,
someone who just loves to learn and digest new information. Therefore my challenges, I view them as a mandatory part of the cycle to success. If “success” was so easily attainable, there would be way more people out here chasing and achieving their wildest dreams. I’ve been raised to know it isn’t for the weak and I always try to keep a positive motivated attitude. When I’m feeling lethargic or unmotivated I lean onto the sector of my enterprise that is the easiest for me at the time.

I want the world to know the tip of the iceberg has only been seen, and there’s so much more in store. I have a deep yearning to assist people be the best version they can be and live the best life they can as we all only have one.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Soooo of course I’m a Dallas native and I’ve lived all over this metroplex, especially the North Dallas area. We’d first take ourselves down to Lower Greenville! The whole street is a madness in a good way. Taste of everything.

Aw Shucks is one of my favorite spots! Been going here since I was a single digit lol. I’m the biggest lover of seafood so they get me right every time.

Snuffers is also a great spot for a burgers and their loaded fries are to die for.
They have a few bars and lounges like Bar 3606 and OT Tavern I go into time to time.

A couple of rooftops, as I’m also a lover for a rooftop.

Buffalo Exchange for some vintage fashion finds.

Me being a lover of ramen also I’m always dipping into Wabi House!

Lastly Terillis is to die forrrr. Amazing Italian dishes, especially, of course, the seafood based ones.

I love the vibe on Lower Greenville, it’s for sure walkable and it’s very diverse!

Outside of there you can never go wrong with uptown, has some cute lounges and bars. Deep Ellum is a go to, it’s getting a little crazy there nowadays, but is always an experience nonetheless. If I pop up down there I HAVE to go to Ruins for my fav dessert and Crab Station because, like I said, I’m in love with seafood. Also can’t forget about Harlowe I love their rooftop!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been so blessed to have amazing parents who have both been my backbone through it all so far and continue to be along this journey. They both are extremely intelligent, hardworking, talented, loving, and trustworthy individuals who’ve done nothing but encourage, challenge, and push me along this journey I like to call the marathon as our late Nipsey would say. I also have a deep love for music and some of my favorite artsts have truly inspired me and have kept me motivated and grounded, whether it has been through their melodies, instrument ensembles, or words. I shoutout my close friend circle as we have all been so supportive of another, referring each other, educating one another, and loving each other through this major transitional age in life. and last but never least is to the Lord, Jesus, the Holy Ghost, and my angels who I lean on and allow to guide me through thick and thin.
