We had the good fortune of connecting with Aeriel Woodkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aeriel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was a floral manager in a grocery store with a newborn baby right as Covid hit. Working in an “essential” place required to me to still come in. I’m somewhat of a germaphobe, so it was awful for me to be “exposed” and taking it back home to baby. After carefully thinking about it, I decided to leave my job and pursue my own thing as a florist. I could avoid germs, and make more money with my loyal customers.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I enjoy flower making, and I believe that’s what makes me so passionate about it professionally. My style is adaptable so I get to experience all different types of vibes! It’s a total rush for me to go into a wedding, make it all beautiful (sometimes with the help of other hired designers) enjoy the atmosphere and mingle, get a hot free meal after running around like a chicken all day to make sure everything is absolutely perfect, and then clean up and go home afterwards. I get to party with them, and get compliments all night. I’m here for it! There has most definitely been challenges, I dove into this head first without a parachute, so it’s been a learning process. I’m comfortable with my business now, and still learning everyday. It’s a blind adventure. I encourage anyone to make their own living if they’ve got what it takes and the time, patience, and stability to do so. It’s worth it! I’m looking forward to the future.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First things first, to my house! Get comfortable, eat, then plot on activities! To eat, we’re going to check out local places like VBB, Chuys, Hot Crab, etc… All the fancy meals I’ll make at home. I love to cook as well! Most definitively a few local bars/hookah lounges I like for the chill days during the week. Longshots, Velvet, Playground.. The weekends we will definitely check out the Afro-beats spots/after hours like Abi, Friends, Soho, Velvet, Volume, etc…

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my mom, and my daughter’s father. They were definitely there for me in the beginning as my main support and cheerleading. Even today.

Shoutout to all the customers, and brides I’ve had over the years that believed in my skills even when I was still struggling to do so.

Shoutout to SZA for personally ordering from me, that made my whole life.

Shoutout to my daughter, it’s truly because of her that I even got into flower making.

Shoutout to all my future customers, and brides!
