We had the good fortune of connecting with Adriana Aranda and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adriana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started collecting crystals and rocks when I was 21, but it wasn’t until recently that I started collecting minerals and displaying them for fun. I made a hobby out of my collection and it was scientific at the same time! I’m all for the science behind crystals and minerals. When the pandemic had rolled in, I had already been a stay at home mom of two. Being at home wasn’t all that new for me. I just finished school as well, so my free time was ordering new rocks and wrapping crystals for jewelry. That’s when it hit me, and I thought, hey, I could sell crystal jewelry as a hobby because I enjoy doing it anyway. I started thinking of names and I realized two things I love are clouds and crystals, but to me, they are my gems. My husband has also been wire wrapping before I was and he helped encourage me during this new idea. I knew I had to stick to this because in a way, I was already doing it. I wanted to share this with everyone at a reasonable expense, while also educating them on the importance of these minerals and their composition. By doing so, I have also grown spiritually with these specimens and their metaphysical properties, for example, their healing energies. Call it a business, but we are having fun doing what we truly love. I didn’t know I was going to have my own business at any point in my life, but I’m glad the timing was now.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I first began creating, I was focused on a hip energy, making chokers and tight necklaces. As the time passed, I also wanted to make earrings. Something about breaking my own rocks and creating jewelry with the pieces was intriguing to me, as well as exciting. It wasn’t easy convincing myself that I could do this, but as I began creating, I just went with the flow of style and it all came to me. I am dedicated to making custom orders so nobody feels like there isn’t a style for them. I’ve learned that everyone likes something different, and I love conforming my ideas to theirs!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think the recognition that needs to be given here is to mother nature, for providing us with such beauty and take-home gifts. Without her, none of this would’ve been possible. There are levels to her, such as rocks, minerals, crystals, and finally, their crystal structure and chemical energy. I’m motivated by the different varieties in color, shapes, and the purpose in their physical matter. I would also like to thank my husband for being my main supporter through all the doubts and pressure, but also the success and great moments, like finding amazing pieces (which we eventually keep for ourselves). I’d also like to recognize the Perot Museum for being an inspiration during my internship in the gems and minerals department. They have helped me recognize further the importance of science as well as the art behind it.
