We had the good fortune of connecting with Addison LaBonte and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Addison, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am constantly surrounded by successful entrepreneurs in Dallas. Prior to moving here, I did not realize how many entrepreneurs call Dallas home. I find inspiration from others who are working day in and day out to accomplish their dreams. In terms of recipe inspiration, I enjoy going out to dinner and seeing what restaurants are cooking. In addition, finding new ways to make old recipes is a challenge I enjoy. I will look through old cookbooks and find ways to tweak classic recipes. Being gluten free presents its own challenges. Gluten free flour is not always easy to work with. I am inspired by this challenge!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I never set out to become a food blogger. After a health diagnosis in 2016, I learned that I had to become gluten free. From there, I began documenting my journey on social media. Much to my surprise, my platform grew exponentially. Through this growth, I have had to learn everything from how to build a website, how to negotiate brand deals, and how to scale a business. I am most proud of never letting fear hold me back. I overcame challenges with asking the right questions, finding the right mentors and researching as much as possible.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
After moving to Dallas in 2021, I have really enjoyed trying new experiences and new restaurants! Some of my favorite things to do include going to sporting events, dining at the city’s best restaurants and finding beautiful places in nature. Some must do items include going to a Stars or Mavericks game, dinner at Honor Bar, Sixty Vines or Hudson House, and walking through the Dallas Arboretum. For fun, I love to shop. Highland Park Village is always a great idea!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The two biggest role models and source of inspiration is my parents. I grew up watching my parents work really hard to provide an amazing life for my siblings and me. Although food blogging is an unconventional career path, they have provided unparalleled support, advice and encouragement. The biggest lesson they taught me was that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to – as long as I work extremely hard. Nothing ever comes without hard work. Hard work does not scare me. In fact, it fuels me. I would not be where I am today without the unconditional love of my parents.
