We had the good fortune of connecting with John Pagnam and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, how do you think about risk?
I think taking risks is one of the most important and fun parts of life. These are the moments you’ll remember. If you want to achieve something big eventually you will be forced to take a few risks. My advice, lean into them don’t shy away. Win or lose you will be better than you were before.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is heavily influenced by pop-culture of the 80s and 90s when I grew up. From comic book superhero’s to sci-fi monsters, fantasy and video games these are the things that inspired my creative spirit and tastes. Im excited to contribute my own work to these genres. I’ve learned many important lessons along the way but the one that stands out the most to me for young artists is: pursue the work you actually love not what you think will make the most money. The money will come regardless.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m in Tyler Texas. If your comin to hang with me I’ll probably take you to the zoo or the state park. I love animals and the outdoors. For food I like Culture ETX and Breakers.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many things outside of myself I could credit to my success. I’ve had some great mentors, read many great books but if there is one above all that stands out its my wife, Kristie. Being a professional artist herself she really understands the mindset and challenges I face. Her love and support has been the most impactful in my life.
