We had the good fortune of connecting with Blake Mendenhall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Blake, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is my client’s success. I have learned from the other trainers around me and from experience that if you buckle down and devote yourself to helping your clients succeed, it will set you up for success in the long run. Take care of your clients and they will take care of you. Another very important factor is practice what you preach. I can’t teach you how to live a healthy lifestyle if I am not living the lifestyle I’m trying to teach. When a client is struggling on a lift, I can relate to that because I’ve been there. If they are struggling with food temptations, I can relate to that because I’ve been there. When you can relate to all of your client’s successes AND failures, big AND small, it’s very easy to help celebrate these wins and work through most of the losses because you’ve been there done that and your clients can tell it’s authentic.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart as a Personal Trainer is how I train my clients. I want to TEACH you how to do these things. If a day ever came where my clients couldn’t train with me, they could still be successful in the gym and in the kitchen. I train my clients this way because I know what it feels like to be in the dark on these things. I was overweight until I was 19. I can relate with so many of the struggles my clients bring to me and that’s what sets me apart. Everything you would be doing with me as a client, I have done it on myself. I have eaten the foods, I have done the lifts, I have gone through the depression, I have felt the hopelessness, and I have experienced the light at the end of the tunnel. I don’t want my clients to have to guess their way through it. I want them to have a step by step process on how to change their lives BUT I also want them to understand the process so they can appreciate it and not mindlessly eat the meals or do the exercises. My brand is called Motivate Greatness because is exactly what I want to do. I want to Motivate others to be Great in every aspect of their life.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
There are a few musts I feel you need to experience when coming to this area if you really want to know what the DFW area is all about. The AT&T (Dallas Cowboy) Stadium, Texas Live, Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor all come to mind. Dallas is full of museums and night clubs, while Fort Worth has Hiem’s BBQ, Sundance Square, and a lot of Bars on 7th street to enjoy. But the one thing they would DEFINITELY have to experience is a workout at Momentum Fitness

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife is a very big part of my success. Along with her support she definitely keeps me in check when it comes to my goals, personally and professionally. I’ve been very blessed to have an extremely strong group of mentors around me at Momentum Fitness. Chase Bergner, Kofi Ankamah, Jordan Walker, Mo Halaby, Victoria Mamach, David Kestenbaum, and Dawn Justice. They are an extraordinary group of individuals who, by their actions alone, keep me accountable and pushing for more personally and professionally. God will always be an important part of my success and a driving force behind what I am working towards.
