We had the good fortune of connecting with Surya Nycole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Surya, why did you pursue a creative career?
Well, I have always felt as though writing pursued me. I have been a writer, story teller, and poet since I was very young, it was just something that I enjoyed doing. Over the last 15-20 years my writing has evolved with me from fictional and funny story telling into deep spiritual truth and mental healing. Being able to communicate the depths of my heart for myself and others through my writing and poetry has been a blessing I find hard to describe! We are all on this journey together and it is important that we stand with each other while we heal and grow. I love that I get to do that through my writing, that I get to walk with someone across the world in their journey and help plant seeds and nourish their healing and growth.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As many creatives know, it is impossible to hold yourself back from your craft. If you do you become agitated and like the Hulk, your craft will find its way out! I began publicly sharing my writing in 2011. It was difficult for me because while I knew the perspective of what I was sharing was true, necessary and healing, I was concerned about how it would be received on public platforms. I had been bullied growing up and knew that while the playground was now online, it was bigger than just my classmates. With that said, I did receive a lot of “hate comments and messages. However, addressing them one at a time, and not trying to convince anyone to adopt the ways of my heart, I have overcome the difficulties in dealing with these types of people. My brand is because of my story and my story is me. I speak from multiple traumatic experiences and the truth about healing and recovery. I speak for myself and for others who do not have a voice and need to know they are not alone. This is why my tag line is I speak about the unspoken and give light to the unseen, which is critical to begin the healing”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love, love, love just walking around any city and Dallas has so many different areas to suit your mood! Personally Deep Ellum would be my favorite and my favorite place to walk around. Seeing the distinct difference in all the establishments and murals on the walls…, my heart just melts! My favorite place to eat out there would defiantly be Pecan Lodge. I love chill atmosphere and food. I also love Ft. Worth, while its not as big as Dallas, I really can’t get enough of the Water Gardens, they are so peacefully and beautiful in the day and especially at night! I love walking the Trinity River, there is just SOOOO much for everyone and every mood! The Coyote Drive -In is the BEST! Watching a movie with the city lights in the background is just magical!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow, well God! He has been there with me in every darkness and scooped me out of every hole. There have been so many people he has placed in my life that have encouraged me and helped me. But I would say of all, my son. His life literally saved mine and continues too. He is my reason to figure it out when there is no answer, he is the reminder God never gave up on my and the reason I never give up on my healing, passion and growth. When I am down he lifts me up, he is so wise and intelligent. If it weren’t for my son Vaughn, I wouldn’t be here to influence healing for others.
