We had the good fortune of connecting with Luke Sessum and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Luke, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks are a factor of every decision we make. Including the food we eat, the cars we drive, the friends we make. It really comes down to how we measure risk, and for me, I try to forecast that risk as far down the line as I can to determine whether or not it’s a risk worth taking. I sincerely believe that the Lord has given me a large capacity of faith and has taken me further than I ever thought I could go, which has increased my understanding of risk. More often than not, faith takes a lot of risk. Faith can sometimes require you to give up your comfortable security and take a risk to pursue an unknown course. But more often than not, there is a greater reward waiting on the other side of that risk. God has time and time again taken me through some major risks concerning my career and life in general, and each time it has required me to weigh the risk and ultimately place my faith in Him to guide me through

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My professional career and story has taken many turns, and I’m not sure that I’ve found my my niche just yet. I got my first job when I was 14 working for a hometown motorcycle shop in Mineral Wells, then around 16 I started ranch work, and then that jumped to making pizza in college, then retail clothing, then to working in a manufacturing facility that produced cheese. Shortly after college I wound up in another manufacturing facility producing wood stain, and that’s when I started playing for a band. As the band progressed I picked up some odd end jobs to make ends meet working in maintenance and lawn care, all while hoping the band would become my main means of support. However, that took a turn and when the band decided to split up, I was left to decide whether or not I would pursue another musical opportunity, or pursue another career opportunity and my girlfriend who later became my beautiful wife. As most probably would, I chased the girl and a desk job haha, and I do not regret that decision one bit. So that decision lead me to a purchasing agent position working for an ambulance manufacturer for roughly two and a half years, finally utilizing my degree I worked so hard to get. I have recently moved my way into a supplier manager role for a company in Fort Worth and it seems that my professional career is continuing to improve. Sadly, the Covid-19 pandemic has slowed that progress as I was temporarily furloughed from that position. But once again the Lord has provided during this time and I’ve picked up some contract work for an awesome defense contract manufacturer here in Fort Worth. At this point in my life, I would argue that I’m fairly well versed and rounded in the workforce and I’ve had the blessing of getting to know a lot of incredible people along the way. Ultimately I’m not pushing one particular brand, but I am pushing each and every brand I’ve been a part of until I get to the point of having my own brand. And that’s my encouragement to anyone in the same boat, I encourage you to trust God and see where He takes you. Just start with asking Him.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Growing up in Mineral Wells, Fort Worth was always the closest big city to us. So of course it always had the allure of the best shops, best food, and big city vibes. Now that we have moved here, that allure hasn’t changed. There are so many awesome spots and events to see here and it’s hard to pick just a few places I would recomend for the most fun. So I’m going to bundle it. Sundance Square fits the bill for an incredible downtown experience for amazing restaurants, shops, and often music/art. You could easily spend a week there, but if you wanted to see it all, you definitely must hit the stockyards, the Fort Worth Zoo, catch a show at the Ridglea Theater, check out a few of the malls, go to a few parks, and explore the more Fort Worth specific restaurants. Personally I love anything to do with motorcycles, music, and lifting weights. So hit the Harley shops, find a concert, or go lift weights at the notorious Metroflex Gym (The Castle)! There can only be a dull moment in this city if you choose to create one.
