We had the good fortune of connecting with Erika Gale Page and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erika Gale, what role has risk played in your life or career?
In my life and career taking risks reflects what I believe about myself and the world around me. Is the Universe good? Is there enough to go around? Can I do this? Risk reflects all of these questions. I would not take the risk if I did not trust the direction of my desires and intuition, nor if I thought the world was a place of lack. Risk to me is a choice. It is a choice to move forward, a choice to believe in what you love and your community, a choice to know sometimes risk means failure or changing direction entirely.

With risk comes great preparation, some intentional and some accidental. I have always loved learning from the ground up. For me, running my own business means learning how everything works from the smallest detail to the long-term vision. Garnering that experience takes time and patience, which is a beautiful reminder in a world where we expect ourselves to know everything instantaneously- there is a pace to successful risk-taking.

There have been quite a few decisions in my life that could have been presumed risky, although at the time they did not feel so poignant. When I was twenty, I left undergrad in Portland, Oregon. I was not satisfied discussing hypothetical scenarios and “what ifs”, I wanted to be in the world getting my hands dirty. I moved to Nashville, where I completed an audio-engineering course to learn the ins and outs of recording music, as writing and singing has always been a passion. About nine months into it, my living situation changed and I had a choice- go back to college or drive to NYC, a city I had never set foot in.

New York City ended up being a stomping ground of accelerated experience from waitress to photography assistant to working for a record label whilst also going to school to receive my masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine for four years. All of the skills I picked up along the way from photo-editing to serving others and seeing a plethora of diverse clientele have made me the multi-faceted practitioner I am today. After eight years in NYC, I decided to move back to my roots where I was born (in Dallas) and establish Mama’s Acupuncture in Uptown. I am excited to be here, to learn and to grow with the community as it continues to change.

In my life I have found that risk is merely trusting your capacity to navigate the unknown. The reward of your own growth and the impact your presence has on others will forever be worth it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I created Mama’s Acupuncture as an integrative health clinic offering acupuncture and herbal medicine alongside craniosacral therapy with a focus on holistic care and client education at the forefront of my mind. For many, how acupuncture works and what it can treat is a bit of a mystery. At its root, Chinese and East Asian Medicine is simply a preventative practice that supports longevity through supporting the body, mind, and soul in coming back to balance, which in modern day terms equates to balancing hormones, quieting the mind, releasing tension, and decreasing inflammation. There are a handful of amazing acupuncturists within Dallas and I hope that together we can demystify acupuncture and expand its reach within the city to affect those who need it most.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many places I have yet to explore! Coming from a big city, I am used to walking and rarely use my car here. I recently had some dear friends visit and we walked the Katy Trail on a Sunday afternoon to the Star’s game. I love the accessibility that Uptown has to offer and there are many great restaurants, small businesses and bars to explore. Almost every friend that has passed through has been to Dream Café for a meal, Fount Board & Table for a tea, The Plant Project for all things divine and the Village Baking Co. for a sweet treat.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been blessed with an amazing group of women who I had the pleasure of attending acupuncture school with. Their support and endearment in the past five years has been unparalleled as a defining factor of my growth and success as a practitioner.
