We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica White and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erica, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I’ve always enjoyed doing hair. As a young girl, I was given the opportunity through my school to experience working in a Salon. It was from that experience that I believe I caught the bug for being a hairstylist. Although I went on in life to do and experience other things. I would always find myself returning to or still styling hair. During these recent challenging times in the World, I knew that I wanted to leave something for my sons. As a single mother I’ve had many challenges in life. But, I’ve always wanted my sons (Eric Jr and Emarion) to know that they can do and be anything they want to be in life. Most of all, I believed the greatest impact I could have on their life is to model entrepreneurship. So, I step out in faith and began my Salon. Of course, I have experienced all the startup challenges but it has been good for my sons to see me work through all of it. I now have a thriving business. A business that I love which allows me to impact my sons life but has also grown to allow me to impact the community.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe that everyone deserves to feel good about themselves. My cost affordable Salon allows for everyone who wants to enhance their appearance the opportunity to do so. Keeping my costs at a moderate level is my contribution to the community. I believe the thing that sets me apart from all others is my ability to see the hairstyle on the person before I do their hair. I’m able to visualize the style that would enhance the best qualities of the persons face. My customers are always very pleased and did not realize the style suggested would enhance their appearance so much. I know that it’s a cliche for entrepreneurs but determination has been the thing that’s helped me overcome all of my challenges. I had to decide within myself that no matter what challenge occurred I would not quit. There’s been many times when my circumstances looked like quitting would be the best option. But, determination kept me from quitting. I’ve learned that if you don’t quit you will win. I would like the world to know that Erica’s Dreads is not just a service for beauty but is also a service for good. We not only strive to provide the best quality of hairstyles but we also strive to keep our cost at a moderate rate within the community.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my Mother, Debra Newborn for all of her support and encouragement. It was her continuous encouragement and talks that helped me through my doubting seasons. Most of all, she has always modeled in front of me determination and hard work. She has always told me that I can do anything and to set my goals high.
