We had the good fortune of connecting with Kris Hundt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kris, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?

Balance is hard to calculate when you own your own business. Anytime you’re out and about you are “ON the clock,” whether you are getting paid or not, because you are your brand. So, all your actions and interactions could lead to getting or losing clients.
Plus, you work when there is work and you work at getting work when there isn’t. I work harder then I ever would working a corporate job, but the rewards are greater and I love what I do so it doesn’t seem like work most of the time. Paperwork and taxes are the hardest work, but I love the freedom I have being my own boss.
After no income for 16 months because of the pandemic, my work/life balance has changed greatly. Before I used to be selective in the work I would do. Now days, I’ll take anything that comes my way. As time goes by I know I will relax and make sure I have more downtime, but for now I’m happy to be working at the things I love.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

A few years ago I could told you without a second thought about me, my art, and what sets me apart. Today, that is a harder question to answer. I’ve been a commercial photographer for over half my life so my 30 seconded plug was like second nature just rolling off my tongue. As of this moment I am rewriting who I am and what I do. My friends tease me that I do some of the strangest things for money. This is true. Besides building character, I get experiences that I never imagined, which opens up my world to new possibilities. Plus, I love an adventure.
All that to say, I’m am a damn fine human being, who is ever growing and changing and so is my art. At the moment my main interests are……
teaching, fluid arts, paper arts, photography, jewelry …….
the list truly goes on and on which keeps life interesting for me.
I think what I’m most proud of is my ability to adapt to change and make it my own.
This manta has gotten me through. “Do what you love, the money will come.”
It’s true because I believe it to be true.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I don’t get out much these days and lots of the places I have loved are no longer around. This is a great city with so much to offer. That being said, I’m all about taking each day as it comes and letting the moment lead me to the next adventure food or otherwise in this city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It’s said it takes a village to raise a child and I agree. To raise an artist, this artist, it takes the world, my world. I am who I am today because of every person, place and thing I’ve come in contact with throughout my life. Every experience from the smile of a stranger, the smell of a lavender field and a hug from a friend have all helped me grow into the damn fine human I am.
