We had the good fortune of connecting with Tara Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tara, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson I have learned is “everything you need is in you or around you”; to stay true to the original vision & be intentional. As time goes and the business grows you learn new ideas & ways of thinking, you see other people doing so many different things, trends pop up every other day; it’s easy to get lost and question if you’re doing the right thing. Yes, there are times that are needed to revisit and tailor the original goal however to jump ship just because you see someone else thriving on their venture isn’t the thing to do. To set realistic expectations that, with consistency, chipped away, will get you to your destination.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would have to say what sets Kid-iisshh apart from any other kids | parental-&-me brand is the vision & what drives it. Times have changed & I don’t too much like it. I loved exploring through playgrounds, eating honeysuckles in my cousin’s backyard, trick-or-treating with overstuffed pillowcases, and playing freeze-tag. But now-a-days, indoor couch sports are the only ones played, no one asks their grandma what games she played & kids these days don’t know what time the porch lights come one. Mixed with the obsession of social media and the rise of obesity in young kids. Kid-iisshh was created to remind all of us to reconnect with the kid in and around us. To remind us to get outside & play; to be uplifting! It’s exciting when I see kids or families in either pieces from either the brand or custom orders because they are always out being active and smiling, which is the purpose!
Sitting where I am today is a result of staying curious and hating monotony. Looking back as a kid I always got in trouble for talking too much or talking back; not because I ran my mouth, but I had to know why or what or how. My dad always told me to question things so call it staying obedient. I have also been someone that itches at the thought of do the same thing for to long or working at a place for 10 years; so, settling by a default not an option.
To be where I am today hasn’t been nor would I want it to be easy. Besides creating apparel for Kid-iisshh, I am a Loan Officer (along with my Fiancé) and have a business doing notaries. Juggling different hats allows you to play different roles in life but still at the end of the day reach and teach and introduce new joys into someone’s life. It allows me to understand how other people live and experience life, as well as show me the opportunities I have as an individual.
I want the world to know that I was born at the right time. I want the world to know that I love not only creating things but helping people get out of their way & be better than they were yesterday; that be through clothing, finances or just simply having you think when’s the last time you played a game.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was coming into town I would have to plan a combination of bar| restaurant hopping, relaxing at the house & bucket list adventures. If she were staying for a week we would google a new place to brunch at leas 3 days and have my Fiancé cook the other days (he’s amazing at cooking). We would have to try adventurous activities such as: hot air ballooning, escape room, get another tattoo together, axe throwing, a play or some live entertainment.
When we get together it is a mixture of kids going wild on sugar mixed with I’ve been working all I want to do is eat and sleep good. There always needs to be a healthy balance of food, fun and adventure for it to be a thorough trip.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It goes without saying that I wouldn’t be this far without the Creator & my lovely Parentals. However, my shoutout goes to my Fiance, Kyle Thomas. From a poke on Facebook to now both entrepreneurs’ journeying through life together is mind-blowing. Even before I started any of my business’ he has always spoken life to my abilities. Having someone understand the struggles of creating something from nothing, the time and focus it requires; being that he is in the insurance industry, he gives the creative side room of me room to grow, adventure and be Kid-iisshh.
