We had the good fortune of connecting with Helsa Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Helsa, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
For the majority of my life, I suffered from “Superwoman Syndrome”. To be honest, I still do. Superwoman syndrome is the idea that you have to do it all, and do it all to perfection. Its the belief that you have to juggle all the the balls without dropping any. So in an effort to keep all the balls afloat and fulling all of my roles and responsibilities to perfection, I neglect myself, leading to stress, anxiety, and chronic fatigue. This was my reality for a long time. Work-life balance did not come natural for me, and it still doesn’t, but overtime I realize the importance of work life balance and prioritizing self care.
As a wife, mother of 3, and entrepreneur, trying to be Superwoman was impacting my quality of life. While I was successful, I realized that I was under extreme amounts of stress, participated in unhealthy habits, and was not living my full potential.
I soon realized that for me to be the best wife, mom, and boss, I did not need to be Superwoman, I needed to be the best Helsa I could be. I had to prioritize work-life balance and self care. That is when I drowned myself in my yoga and meditation practice. Through meditation and yoga, I began to shift my focus from my “to do list” and shifted to the present. I incorporated mindfulness practices such as non-striving and letting go to help me deal with difficult situations. I also began to create dedicated time just for me. Imagine that! Time for me to rest, reset, and recharge without having to think about anyone or anything else. Game changer!
This shift in my life pushed me in creating The Aura House. I saw the power that mediation and yoga had in improving my quality of life and wanted to empower others to do the same. I strive to create a safe space for people to find balance, to heal, and to unlearn unhealthy habits.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite places around DFW are family spots of course. As a wife and mom or 3, family time is how I spend time out and about in DFW. A few of our family’s favorite spots are
Fossil Rim to see and feed the animals. This short drive makes you feel like you are in a different world with the animals up close and personal to you.
Grandscape to hang out at Electric Game box is a favorite for the boys. The love being in a live-action video game.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shout out to my family: My husband, Michael. Thank you for supporting my dreams and pushing me to dream big.
My mother, Eurydice. You are my biggest fan and I want to make you proud every day.
My Sons, Michael, Jordan, and Jalen. You 3 are the reason why I strive to be better everyday. Thank you for giving me purpose.
