We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Lipscomb and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, how do you think about risk?
Risk is the prerequisite to growth. I have found throughout my life and career that after a period of time, no matter how great a job is, how great the status quo may be, staying too long in an area without growth breeds stagnation. In other words, to grow requires accepting the risk of possible failure.
My latest risk taking adventure comes in the form of leaving a very stable, government contracted position with guaranteed income for the opportunity to set my own schedule, grow relationships with the clients I get to pick, and build the income that supports the lifestyle my wife and I choose to live. This adventurous risk has rejuvenated my marriage, reset my thought life, and; although currently rebooting, it will give our finances the opportunity to reach our previously 10-15 year goals in under 3 years. These financial goals include being able to pay off debt, our home, and have the resources to give abundantly back to the community and Kingdom of God in ways we never thought possible.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At Lipscomb Creative we provide creative services. This is everything from graphic design, video editing and production, website design, and more. We want to help businesses grow and we realize not all of them have massive marketing budgets or even a creative team. We stand in that gap to provide top quality digital marketing that will help them reach their goals and dreams as they in turn help us reach ours.
I never went to school to be a Creative; however I did graduate from Lee University with a Bachelors in Business Administration. My journey in the creative industry began when my dad bought me a GoPro for Christmas. I started with time-lapses and static camera angles. I began wanting to tell a better story so I taught myself by watching tutorials, other YouTube creators, and researching new techniques and design styles. In no time I was crafting better storylines, creating my own artwork, designing logos, and building a brand.
Having a clear vision of the destination for this business and how I want my life to look is what makes every step achievable. If one project is hard, or one week is not that great, it’s okay because I know it is just a stepping stone to the dream.
It certainly wasn’t easy to get to where I am today. There were many try and fail attempts with lots of learning and practice along the way…there still is and always will be! Luckily I had an amazing job while growing Lipscomb Creative. I was able to develop my creative skills and business knowledge while simultaneously working as an operations manager of a weather station. As you may know, there are a lot of weather free days throughout the year, and one of the perks of that job was being able to fill downtime with hobbies. For a season, that job was my training ground.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live exactly between Nashville, TN and Bowling Green, Ky. These two great cities have very different things to offer, but the first stop on every great trip is food. Nashville is king in that department. Best pizza? Five Points Pizza either downtown off Charlotte Avenue for a little more leg room, or over in East Nashville for the authentic hole in the wall experience. You can’t get any better tasting food period without visiting my friends over in Gallatin at Epic Eatery. Chef Christopher has no doubt the best steaks drizzled in Tennessee Whiskey sauce. Everything on the menu is a hands down winner.
There are so many amazing cultural things to see around Nashville, but it’s crowded. My wife and I tend to spend our time enjoying the slower things in life. From the Franklin, KY drive-in movie theater, to the many scenic greenways we get to walk, picnicking at Old Hickory Lake, or spending the cooler evenings watching baseball with the Bowling Green Hot Rods. When you get out of Nashville, there’s still country to see.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be able to grow Lipscomb Creative without the love, talent, and support of my beautiful wife Jen. She has been nothing less than encouraging and has pushed me to dream bigger, work harder, and live life to the fullest. Did I mention she also co-owns this dream? She is a fantastic teacher, speaker, and graphic designer with a passion for helping women find lasting freedom and healing by discovering their identity in Christ.
I also have a wonderful supporting team of family and friends who have shared their wisdom and insights, helped build my faith, and continue to co-labor in support of this amazing journey. Thank you Randy and Brenda Crick for loving me as your own. Thank you to my Leadership Life Group for their encouragement, knowledge, and mentorship they so generously share. Most importantly, I give all credit to Jesus Christ. The skill sets he has blessed me with and the opportunities that arise are all to the Glory of God and to show and share Jesus with the world.
