We had the good fortune of connecting with Abby Bauer and Emily Young at Roots Beauty Bar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abby Bauer, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind our success at Roots Beauty Bar is our infectious positive energy combined with an enormous amount of raw talent. We constantly hype each other up and collectively want everyone to be as successful as possible!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Roots Beauty Bar isn’t your typical salon. You’ll walk in and feel like you’re in your dream living room with live plants in every corner, your favorite tunes bumpin’ in the background and greeted by the friendliest group of women you didn’t know you needed in your life. We are a full service salon including 5 independent hair stylists, a body waxing specialist and a lash technician. We are super proud of our unique aesthetic and our concept of a one stop shop. It’s not uncommon to see a client getting their hair done one day and come back the next day for a wax or lash extension service and that’s the goal!

We truly believe owning our business is something every new stylist thinks about having one day, but actually doing it is something different. It was definitely a combined effort with Emily and I and we both needed each other in completely different ways. We know how to bounce ideas back and forth and how to compromise easily with any bumps along the way. It’s not always easy owning a business, and being first time salon owners, we’re equally grateful we can lean on each other for support and learn lessons together! Ideally we want the world to know that Roots is a safe place you can go into feeling down in the dumps, and leave feeling like a whole new person, motivated and definitely more confident than before entering our salon.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well if you didn’t know, Arlington is ‘America’s Dream City’ , there is so much to do! If you’re into a fun atmosphere where you can eat dinner and experience a local brewery, check out downtown Arlington off Division street and Main. There’s lots of restaurants (Tipsy Oak, Cane Rosso, Cartel Taco) , a super fun tiki bar called 4 Kahunas and a brewery called Legal draft. If you’re not into that you can always check out a Dallas Cowboys game at the AT&T stadium or catch a Rangers game and hit up all of the bars and ‘straunts at Texas Live!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our shoutout would have to be a combination of many people who have made Roots Beauty Bar come to life. First and foremost, my other half, Emily Young, having the drive, passion, and over 13 years of success as a stylist and taking me (Abby Bauer, with 3 years experience as a stylist) under her wing and having faith in me to start our salon together. Second, we are so grateful for our parents and their amazing support throughout our careers. They are all a huge part in helping Roots be a success. Lastly, a big shoutout to our husbands (John and Stanley) for supporting our wildest dreams every step of the way and lending their extra time (and muscles) in making Roots beautiful.
