We had the good fortune of connecting with $uga OTB and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi $uga, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued the career of making music because not only has it been an everlasting passion of mine; however I also believe I can save souls through my music as well. I believe that my music has the ability to help change someone’s life, thought process, and/or perspective about themselves or certain situations throughout life.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am a $uga OTB, Female Emcee (Artist), & I have been in the industry for 3 years & counting. Some of you may know me from reaching final rounds in Cypher competitions, some of you may know me from the freestyles I drop every Sunday for #SugaSundays, and some of you may not know me at all, but you will. I’m still fairly new in the industry, & I am still learning the ropes of it all; however I’m making progress day by day. I’m most excited about dropping my very first EP/Project “Lone Star $uge” very soon. I have been working very very hard on this project just to showcase that I am here on the scene & I’ve arrived to not only make my mark, but also make a change.

It took me a long time to get where I am now, & I’m no where near where I want to be; however anything is possible as long as you apply faith & works together. I eat, breathe, & sleep music, so when you want it bad enough it doesn’t come as easy. It builds character & resilience to stead fast, keep pushing & going forward towards your purpose.

I want the world to know that no matter what your dream/purpose is it’s obtainable. You have to go out, get it, & make it work for you so you can reach out & help others, & also that $uga OTB is here to stay, & never letting up.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had someone come visit the city I’d definitely take them to Fuel City to eat the best tacos ever known to man. Then we’d probably go to either Uptown or Deep Ellum to hit up some bars, have a few drinks, & enjoy the time.
Definitely would take them to the Dallas Art Museum hopefully we could catch a fashion exhibition that would be dope.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout to God first & foremost. Without Him I am nothing. Cliche, but he got me where I am today.

Secondly, I want to shoutout to my beautiful family my mom Sharon & my sister Gabrielle. I love you guys to God’s love. Dad, may you Rest In Peace. You’re forever in my heart.

Lastly, I want to thank my “$uga Babies” even though we’re a small group every last one of you have supported me near/far & are so genuine & patient to my craft & I as we all grow together. I am forever grateful for you guys, honestly.
