We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashton Vonshore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashton, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursed an artistic career because of freedom and having the opportunity to make a choice. In this industry you’re able to make judgement on things that make you happy and how they make you feel. Other professions are very disciplined and driven by numbers. In my career, I’m able to help someone’s mental being through a beautiful design or color selection.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Ashton Vonshore and I am the owner of Ashton Vonshore Interiors, LLC located here in Dallas, TX! We are a full service interior design firm that specializes in high end luxury residential and commercial spaces. We pride ourselves on creating luxury through stylish living. My interior design firm is different because we are HGTV ready at all times. Our designs will always look finished and curated to perfection. We love the look of clean line minimalism but we also love the aesthetics from bold and colorful maximalism as well. I started my interior design career when I was 12 years old when my mom gave me a task of designing a bedroom. My mom was always known for having one of the most spectacular interiors in the Mississippi Delta. People would be amazed at her furniture selections, color schemes, and practical space planning. I didn’t even realize at the time what she was doing until late one night, I was up watching HGTV’s Divine Design with Candice Olson. I was blown away at her high end approach to every project. Her fabric selections were always impeccable. As I grew older and really realized how much I was in love with interior design, it was my mission to ensure this dream came true and that one day I have my own show on HGTV. When I attended Mississippi State University, I entered into the interior design program as the only African American Male in my entire department! Yes, everyone from the Director of the program down to my friend that sat next me in studio class. It was definitely a shock to me because I’ve never really been in a situation like that but I knew what I’ve always dreamed and I had to make it happen. I struggled and I mean truly struggled. My mom was a single parent who at the time had younger twins (boy and girl) to raise while I was off in school. I did what I only knew how and that was work to find a way through it all. I worked for the Hilton Garden Inn as a Night Auditor from 11pm until 7am while also being a full-time student from 8am until 5pm! I was TIRED but I had to get it done. While in college I started my business which was named Vonshore’s Conception and we specialized in holiday and seasonal decor. We did a lot of decorative wreaths, door letters, garlands, and Christmas Trees throughout the season.
Along this journey it definitely has not been easy but I can say that it has been worth the ride so far. I hope to one day inspire and encourage so many others to take that leap of faith and stay consistent. I still have a long road to go but I’m better equipped now to handle what’s thrown at me and the business. I want the world to remember me as a multifaceted individual who is full of surprises worth watching. I want “Ashton Vonshore” to be another household name like Martha Stewart!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Because I’m still new to the city, I haven’t had a chance to try everything just yet or have had the opportunity to visit places but I have had a chance to visit Woolworth Downtown. They have amazing cocktails! I also visited a hookah lounge here but i’m not sure of the name. I’m always open to making friends so if people have any suggestions on place to go please feel free to inbox those recommendations.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my family, The Pernell Family of Mississippi because of you guys none of this would be possible!
