We had the good fortune of connecting with Egypt Ase and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Egypt, what principle do you value most?
Authenticity, I like to stay transparent and real within everything that I do. Being genuine is a virtue that I value because I appreciate when someone can be real with me no matter the circumstance, and I can feel when a person is authentic. When you’re authentic, your actions will reflect it and result in favorable outcomes. When it comes to my music, I feel as though it is extremely important for me to stay true to who I am, not only as an artist, but as a person.
I love to express myself truly through the lyrics I use in my songs.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, aside from the fact that I make music, I implement a different level of creativity through my clothing customization business, Hot Commodity Customz, where I transform old clothing into new, unique pieces. I would not say that it was easy to start this kind of business but it became easier once I gained more support. I’ve learned so much over time, one of the most important lessons that I have learned was to always charge what you are worth and never let anyone discourage you from demanding what you are owed. My advice to others is to always believe in yourself and to remain sure of yourself.
If you are searching for encouragement to start the venture that you have been dreaming of, you can do it, the time is now. Your idol or your inspiration had to start somewhere, so why not start today?
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would encourage all of the tourist to visit the “Klyde Warren Park” where you can try different cuisines from various food trucks and enjoy live bands. This the perfect spot for a peaceful day out. I would also urge people to visit “Serious Pizza ” in Deep Ellum. The pizza there is extremely delicious while being served in huge portions. You won’t regret it!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to my mama, Tremar Fite, for always pushing me and encouraging me to turn my dreams into reality. When I was younger, I would take her tough love and much-needed lectures for granted and back then I couldn’t understand. Now I’ve come to truly appreciate the fact that everything that she did was to mold me and allow me to explore the gifts that God has blessed me with and to use them. If it wasn’t for her constant words of wisdom I would have never chose to pursue music.
She has always been the one to light a fire in me because she was the one that believed in me first.
