We had the good fortune of connecting with Melxdie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melxdie, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
One of the most difficult decisions I ever had to make was letting go of people that no longer served me within my business and friend circles. Making a call to let people go, or making changes in the way you run your creative business can be very difficult. Sometimes it’s hard to trust you’re making the right decisions especially when the people around you try to convince you that you’re nothing without them. I’ve had a lot of people try to bring me down in that process and I think believing in myself and trusting my instincts and being okay with making mistakes is all apart of the evolutionary process of stepping into the truest version of myself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Whats sets me apart from others… I think what sets me most apart from others is the fact that I’m resilient as hell. No matter the trials and obstacles I’ve faced throughout my growth as an artist I have yet to give up and I don’t plan on it at all. My journey to get here was not easy. The year I decided to pursue singing, I faced chronic jaw pain after an incident causing my jaw to close shut for months. I was unable to eat, sleep, sing and all I kept telling myself was “maybe music isn’t in the cards for me”. I went to several doctors and almost had to pursue jaw reconstruction, but later found a doctor in Washington who helped me overcome it without undergoing surgery and I’m still being treated for it even 3 years later. I got into a car accident right before I was supposed to Tour Europe, and my first big gig opening up for Stefflon Don at rebel, not only was I physically falling apart, but my team, relationships, and mental health at the time was also falling apart as well. I’ve battled being told no in rooms unless I’m willing to compromise my morals to get to the top. I’ve been offered false promises by men who abused their roles, and although I’ve been through all this, it has truly helped me prove to myself that no matter how big something feels, you are bigger and you can overcome it if you truly put your mind to it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
OOOO. If I had to go anywhere with my best friend I think it would be back to Peru. I’ve been there before but I think we’re the type to just go to Peru, end up in Machu Pichu and wind up meeting a shaman and doing Ayuhuasca in the jungle and coming out of it a brand new boss.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I feel as thought everybody good or bad deserves a shoutout. No matter how bad things seemed throughout some of my growing as an artist, I don’t regret any of the teachings I have learned. Some took longer to learn than others but nonetheless I’m grateful. I really appreciate the support of my managers Stefanie Eby and Chez Gayle they’ve done nothing but support, believe and encourage me to be consistent, hype me up and make me feel good about the path I am on. I appreciate the support of my family, especially my Mama and my cousin Nancy Yehia who have been nothing but supportive in creating a foundation and keeping me in check, especially in time when I seem to be straying away from who I truly am. I appreciate my father for being a huge inspiration for me as a kid. He was a famous latin artist in peru, he had many stage names but one of the more prominent ones being, “Pochi Macedo”. He has taught me everything I know about music and at the time I didn’t appreciate it as much as I do now. I also would like to shout out y’all for giving me the opportunity to introduce myself and be here, and ultimately, shout out to myself for never giving up even when I felt less than enough.
