We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Nicole Colbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley Nicole, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Staying true to myself and my brand. Whether it be the style of makeup I enjoy creating or something as simple as sharing the music I like. It’s hard not to fall into what’s trending because that is what seems to garner the most attention. I find the more I stay true to my authentic self, the more successful my brand is. Like attracts like.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like skin to look like skin. My style is very fresh, ethereal and hyperreal. It definitely wasn’t easy getting where I am professionally. I overcame the challenges by being authentic, continued education and believing in myself. I’ve learned many lessons in this industry but I’d say one of the most important is that you can’t please everyone. Some people won’t like my art and that is perfectly okay.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well first, I’m from Fort Worth so some of the things on this list are there (please don’t come for me Dallas folks)
Friday: (Fort Worth day)
Brunch at Yolk for sure. The red velvet french toast?! Whew. Then we’d definitely have to hit up The Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth. Then a nap and dinner at Cane Rosso. If you’ve never had neapolitan style pizza, do it. Finally I’d take them to Scat jazz club, a cool speakeasy style club with good vibes.
Saturday:
The next day we’d go hiking/biking at River Legacy Trails in Arlington. It’s a hidden gem not far from Cowboy Stadium. Then at night we’d definitely have to bar hop in Deep Ellum.
Sunday:
Sunday. Funday. If you know, you know.
If we’re still alive after that then finally I’d take them to King Spa. It’s a Korean spa with the best saunas, food, bars and pools. A great way to detox after a successful Sunday Funday
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
