Meet Darien Newsome | Recording Studio Owner & Hip-Hop/R&B Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Darien Newsome and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Darien, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I went to college for a couple of years thinking I would figure out what I would want to do, as everyone says you would figure growing up, but it never really came to me. In hindsight I have always known what I have wanted to do with my life, it just wasn’t something that was looked at with reverence. When it comes to music, specifically Hip-Hop/R&B, everybody and their cousin says they want to make music. Everyone raps, everyone sings, everyone has “a studio.” However I wanted to truly make a living at what I knew I had a gift in. School and a regular job for me was just going through the motions, and it felt more difficult than it should have been. I like to be in control of how I spend my work day. It has taken many years, but I finally got to the point where the money really started coming in with my studio business. This field is oversaturated with those who claim to want to do what I do, but I had to push through the herd, and after all the sacrifice made it happen.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I first started making music, I really didn’t want to have to pay producers for beats, and pay to record in a studio. I felt I could do it all myself. A few years in I really fell in love with making music, and engineering music. I dropped making beats, allowed other producers to make beats for me, and continued on my journey. Eventually I decided that I had enough skill with engineering music, that I could offer it to others. Being an artist too I know what artist are used to dealing with with studios, so I set things up to be as good of s an experience, and affordable as possible. My business also offers music video and photo services, along with me freely mentoring artist who may be new to making music. I became a one stop shop for artists’ needs, because nobody wants to go to 3 or 4 people for a single release; and it can get really expensive. I make everything convenient and affordable for artist, cause I’ve been there too.
I have Chron’s Disease and have had a huge operation done on my colon. Along with taking immunosuppressants for so long, it was difficult to manage it while also pursuing my business. Something with my health would always pop up, adding layers of challenge to my goals. It was insanely difficult, and even sometimes I am surprised I have achieved what I have, I managed it and made it this far, so I truly believe you can achieve whatever you set your mind to. No matter what life throws at you, you just cannot give up. You keep pushing, and eventually you make it through,
I have learned about the fortitude it takes to pursue what you want in life. A lot of people make the decision to not fight for what they want out of life. I believe everyone can achieve what they want, but they to have to decide to actually make it happen. There were people who were supposed to be on this journey building with me, and I am the only one who stuck with it until now. It takes a sort of faith, and persistence to make it where you want. A lot of the times you’re blind, but when you trust yourself things seem to always work out; You have to make moves though. Faith without works is dead.
I want the world to know about me is that I came from a very difficult background, yet I pushed through. I want people to know that you can do whatever you set your mind too, despite how cliché that sounds. It seems all these cliché sayings stem from truth. I realized this and it truly is the way to live. I am always pushing for more, and when I pass on one day, I want to be remembered for living my life the way I wanted to, despite what I have been through. I think that’s the legacy everyone should want to leave behind. My studio is the first step in any artist’s journey, and whoever takes themselves serious enough to push for what they want, can trust that my brand will be right behind them for the same support that they give me in pushing for my dreams. I believe in having a team, and that is what “Danpimp Recordings” is here for.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor, and Lake Arlington for sure. For food and drink we could get together with mutual friends and have a kickback at my place. Make food, drink, everything. I am real big on the social aspects of friendship. There’s something about getting together with people you care about. If we’re drinking definitely want a safe environment for that. Sometimes I wonder what the most exciting things are around here! We could look up other local hotspots, and jump from place to place. I like long drives to travel to new places. It feels good to discover local things that you never even knew about yourself.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My girlfriend Katia. She was the one who first told me I should really do something with my talent. She convinced me to “record myself,” and since then I kept doing more and until I finally got to the point I am now. She’s never doubted me. Always believed I would do something great; and here we are.
