We had the good fortune of connecting with Ronda Ray and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ronda, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Consistency is key. I am the preacher of small, daily consistent efforts that add up to big results over time. Success lies in my daily routine. I’m really good at just grinding out the mundane tasks that aren’t very spectacular. That kind of preparation is what lays the ground work for the more spectacular opportunities. And, as a result of those daily habits, when the spectacular comes, there’s no chance of sabotage, because even the “bigger” opportunities find their own place and part in the daily routine.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a singer, songwriter, recording artist and musician. My passion is inspiring others to live their dream. Life as a professional musician is full of struggles and daily challenges. It’s a wonderful thing to be an artist. But if you want to succeed in the music business being an artist is not enough. You have to be an entrepreneur. You have to continue to grow, you have to become the person who can succeed at the next level. You have to increase your problem solving skills as well as your threshold for pain. It’s especially difficult for women. You have to know your music and your business inside and out because there is a culture of disrespect and jealousy towards successful females. You must intentionally surround yourself with like minded people or the pressure will pull you into comparison and self doubt because those are the prevalent voices in society. The lessons never stop and they are many and usually painful. But, out of trial comes great art and and writing one song makes all of the trauma and pain worth it. I travel the nation as a solo performer and with my band. Each scenario lends itself to unique challenges and equally great rewards. My dream is to tour the world with my band and to give people a momentary reprieve from the trials and noise of life for a couple hours. So far, I’m living it! I live for the human exchange that happens in a live performance. There is a reciprocation that happens between the artist and audience and that’s when the magic happens. And I live for the magic. I love rock n roll. I’m inspired by the great bands of the 60’s and 70’s and hope that is conveyed in the music that I create and through meaningful, authentic songwriting.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My personal enjoyment usually involves being outdoors and eating some great food. I love brunch at Righteous Foods on West 7th. We would ride bikes along the Trinity River and stop at HG Supply Co for lunch or drinks. Of course we’d have to visit the Fort Worth Stockyards. We would have to have dinner at Horseshoe Hill on Exchange Ave. I’ve played shows at The White Elephant Saloon since the beginning of my career. It’s a Fort Worth staple so we would have to say hello. And a walk through Mule Alley and Hotel Drover is also a must!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have learned the greatest lessons through my most challenging struggles. I have to thank those who tried to keep me down the most, because without their resistance I could never have learned the wisdom and experience required to sustain long term success. I also want to thank my fans. I have the most loyal, fun, positive fans in the world!
