We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany DeVille and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Oh man, It’s definitely changed! As mentioned in my last article, I’m a Mom, and so it takes a lot of planning and balance. I also help manage and run the salon I rent my space from. Shout out to Panther City Salon! With working two jobs, keeping and adorable 9 year old alive and well, I have to make sure I rest, and make time for that. I also keep one of those big bulky paper calendar books. I know, I know; I’m old school. But I just have to be able to write and see my schedule on paper! The weeks I don’t have my daughter I work a lot, and balance those weeks as my busy weeks. When I have her; I keep my schedule light, so I can pick her up from school daily, and have my evenings and Saturday’s with her. I think that balance has worked so well for me! I want to sew into my daughter and give her all my time and attention, and I don’t ever want her to think work is more important than her. So if you see me on my non-kid weeks: I may look a little crazy cause its go go go!! Always make time to rest and care for yourself (ONCE A WEEK), and remember your family comes before work.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So I like to think of myself as a brow whisperer. It’s like I just know what your face needs! Haha. But for real, I’m a Permanent Makeup artist who specializes in brows; they are absolutely my favorite! They bring out all of your facial features, and make your eyes pop! I really think I have a special talent that sets me apart. I can see what each individual client needs, and what colors and shapes will be best for them personally. Everyone is so different, and one type and style doesn’t work for everyone. So, I would say my ability to see that is special! But learning this craft, and growing in it has not been easy. When I left my last day of training; I cried because I felt like it was sooo much harder than I Imagined, and I didn’t know if I could do it. I had to go home and refocus and just believe that I could do this, I knew I had talent, I just needed to practice. No one is a master overnight! So I researched and spent many hours applying what I was learning, before ever touching a human. I wanted to be confident, and do a great job. I mean its someone’s face and confidence being transformed! I take that very seriously. I learned that being new at something is okay, and its a journey. I’m about to hit 5 years of being a PMA, and I couldn’t be happier with what I’ve built/building, and where its headed!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would 100% head to the Stockyards to show them the heart and history of Fort Worth! Eat a big steak at Cattleman’s, or dine on the beautiful patio at Joe T Garcia’s. The Reata rooftop is another fav! Their cheese jalapeno grits rock. Plus the downtown Fort Worth view is beautiful, and its just a relaxing experience, Then for a little adventure we could head on over to Six Flags; I love rollercoasters, and we have on of the best parks! Tons of awesome rides, and food. I also love some of the local tea rooms and antique stores. The Montgomery St. Antique Mall and Secret Garden tea room is adorable. So many little nostalgic treasures to behold! The Southlake town square is awesome for shopping and food too. Fort Worth is truly a gem!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely! Someone always goes ahead and paves the way for others! I would love to shout out all of my co-workers at Panther City Salon. I love seeing their success, their passion, and dedication continue to grow and flourish. Joining this team was monumental for me! They continue to support me, and help my business grow. Being a part of a huge team of self employed, creative women is so encouraging, and such a blessing to be apart of. I know that they will be apart of my future success, and endeavors. I also want to shout out my amazing church family! My Pastors, and leaders, and friends have helped me so much in navigating this journey I’ve been on. They continue to speak into my identity, and are always their to either cry with me, or celebrate with me! And above all thank you to my sweet and kind Jesus; for always having my back and being my best friend!
