We had the good fortune of connecting with Julius Gordon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julius, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Omg I am the ultimate risk taker now lol! I wasn’t always that way though. I kind of got forced into it out of necessity and sheer anger honestly. I’ve never had situations where I was given opportunities so any opportunity I had I had to create. I would get so furious with the powers that be for not putting me in positions that I felt I deserved and say “well forget them I’ll create my own and it’ll be way better lol!” That kind of created this fearlessness in me and I began feeling like I can do anything! So now my default is simply to take the risk! To create the space that I want to operate in and do it my way and if it doesn’t workout, I’ll learn from that and take that into the next risky endeavor. As a result of that I’ve created this life and career model that I thrive in!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the founder of JG Music Education, a music coaching company that provides private and group lessons in voice, piano, guitar, songwriting, and audio engineering. There are a few things that I feel set this company apart from other coaching companies, the first being the fact that teach clients at any level. We have actors/actresses that have zero experience in music but are looking to improve the quality of their voice so that they can go out for more roles. We take creatives from the ground up and give them the tools to perform at a professional level. Another huge thing that I feel makes us a bit different is that we have the capacity to get our clients from the start to the end of a project. All of our voice instructors not only sing and teach voice but are also professional songwriters and vocal produces. So we can not only prepare you vocally for the recording process, but we can be there with you as you record, help write the song, vocal produce the song, as well as prepare you for the stage. We’re a one-stop shop! The biggest thing I think that sets us apart, though, is the way our instructors connect with our clients. All of the instructors at JG Music Education were hand picked by me. I’m a person that believes in connection. If I couldn’t connect with, identify with, and feel a true light and warmth when I met with a potential instructor, I did not invite them to be a part of our team. Our teachers nurture and instruct with love. Yes, music requires a certain level of discipline and we make sure our clients understand that, but we also make sure that they understand that they must give themselves a level of grace and patience when it comes to this. It’s not something you can force or will to happen overnight. When you walk into a lesson with an instructor here there is an undeniable feeling of warmth and having that was something I was not willing to compromise on.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Omg so this is horrible but I honestly do NOTHING when I am home in Dallas. I literally hang out with my parents and family like the whole time! I guess I would take them to some of my favorite food spots. We’d hit my favorite seafood spot, Razoo’s. Then I’d have to take them to get what I feel is the best fried chicken in the city, Hall’s Chicken. Honestly, the entire stay would be eating food that I’m sure isn’t good for us but I know will be good to us lol!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my high school choir teacher Dr. Michelle Magee-Norfleet and my late high school English instructor Gwendolyn Mosely. They both plucked me from obscurity and showed me that I had gifts that were worth nurturing.
