We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Cooper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vanessa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I genuinely wanted the freedom to live my life on my own terms. But being able to work and do what I love at the same time. It was a no brainer. It took me a while to figure it out. I love math and anything dealing with finances. It came to me while sitting at my full-time job. I already worked in tax/financial services. I thought if I can build someone else’s business. I know I can do it for my own company. So, in 2018 I founded my own tax preparation company Cooper Tax Services.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are a company who specialize in tax preparation services for individuals, small businesses. Along with an array of other services. Credit Repair, Proper Business Structure Setup (LLCs, Corp, Inc, etc.), State Business Filings, and Mobile Notary. The thing that sets us apart from others is we are truly educating and helping the community. Giving tips and tools to help others to understand how to obtain financial stability. Mostly that if I can do it, they can too. Also with drive, determination, willing to strive for the best, lots of prayers, self-motivation we came far from when Cooper Tax Services was founded back in 2018. This journey by far has been one of the most difficult things I have done. But we overcame a lot and have grown so much. With anything you do there is going to be obstacles and challenges. Covid profoundly changed things but we are still trying to make a difference through these difficult and unpredictable times. Being able to stay in business during covid with much havoc that it caused the world makes me most proud now. My biggest lesson I have learned along the way is that being an entrepreneur you have to be able to adapt and evolve with the changes and times. Take care of yourself because the brand can only be great at the person behind it. One thing that I want to let the world know about me and the brand is that we are here to stay.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well for weekend out in our city I would start out with a brunch at one of my favorite spots. Jonathan’s Diner has some great Chicken & Waffles to pair with their variety of mimosas. I am a big movies goer. So, I would catch a movie at the new theater downtown Dallas Cinepolis Luxury Cinemas Victory Park. Also big on bars we would go to Deep Ellum to check out Vidorra. Nice place with great vibes and atmosphere. For dinner we would head down my favorite dinner spot in Addison, Tx called Kenny’s Wood Fire and Grill. They are a great steak and seafood place with an at home feel. Services and food are immaculate.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
On this journey of building my company have several people who encouraged me along the way. Of course, I first want to give honor to God because he is the reason any of this is possible. Second, my son Kevin Jr. He is my reason for being and striving for greatness. I must show him how to be a great leader. Third, my family and friends. But especially my close friends (Porsha Nichols). I want to thank them for all their support and love that they give. Helping me to keep striving for the best. I have several mentors I want to give credit to Trish O’Neal, Shay Mcknuckles who are also knowledgeable and experienced Tax professionals who helped guide me along the way. Finally, my clients who support me to the fullest. I owe it to them. Because without my clients continued support there would not be a Cooper Tax Services.
