We had the good fortune of connecting with Gurie Sheffield and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gurie, how do you think about risk?
Every risk I’ve taken professionally has been to my benefit so far. My whole life I been a very reserved person. Only when I started branding, I understood how important it is to take risk. Taking chances can be a gamble sometimes, I’m still learning to deliberate the pros & cons. It’s worth the challenge, I’ll be more satisfied knowing I did than miss a big opportunity.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love to film and direct just as much as acting. I set a plan to write my first action series and getting great support for it. My production company will produce blockbuster film quality on an independent level. Plus I have soundtrack artist to use for multiple types of projects. I been on plenty tv sets, sitting behind the directors and learned a lot. Asking questions about everything from camera angles to camera lenses. I applied that knowledge to better my craft and taught my team what I know. Some things classes can’t teach you, experience is key. This was not easy, the lack of sleep was horrendous at times and overwhelming. It got to a point I was overbooked for gigs and had to learn how to manage my time better. The challenge of balancing my time, sleep, editing, reading lines and not missing opportunities became a blur. My brand was built off of stepping stones, people that helped me bit by bit. That’s what I want to offer to the next creative that needs that same push.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lone Star Axe Throwing, bowling, The Omni to shoot pool, NYLO Rooftop bar, iFly, darts, and Playstation 5 tournament.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shoutout my favorite creator, Adrienne Mullins. She’s an inspiring tv producer, story-teller, author, actress, editor and model. She’s currently building content for her self-owned platform, The JBH Network, that will open doors for more untold impactful stories. I’m extremely proud of her, known her since college and she is accomplishing a lot. Just want her to know she’ll always have my support, and keep dreaming big.
