We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Scott Silverii and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Scott, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Helping other people was my emphasis. I prayed for direction in how I might serve other people while applying my passion for writing and publishing books. Five Stones Press is a 501c3 nonprofit and a big part of my ministry for guiding people in getting their message to market through books, study curriculums and video teaching series. The publishing process also allows me to nurture relationships with aspiring writers as I get to walk with them through the creative process as well as the mechanics of publishing and distributions. Starting this business has allowed me to increase charitable giving as well as share biblical principles of growing income streams and stewardship.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a 501c3 nonprofit, Five Stones Press commits 90% of the gross proceeds to charitable giving. My vision is to provide a voice for the faith-based community in sharing their testimony, message or passion through books. What sets us apart is our emphasis on relationships over revenue. I personally walk every author through the entire creative process. I’m also proud of the ministry connections created as I help writers explore ways to multiply their book’s earning potential so they may also increase charitable giving. I took an unconventional route to starting Five Stones Press. I was actually a career law enforcement officer who retired as a chief of police when God called me into ministry. Understanding that serving God looks very different to each person, I was led to minister to others one-on-one as opposed to only speaking from the pulpit. My wife was instrumental in teaching me the business side of publishing. A successful mystery author whose 70 novels have made the New York Times and USA Today Bestsellers list an incredible 38 times, knew my heart for helping others and shared her expertise so we could combine our gifts to benefit others. Blazing a brand-new path after 50 years old isn’t the easiest thing I’ve ever done, but making my approach based on a few key elements has been instrumental. Before anything, I prayed for God’s direction. Next, I developed a clear set of goals and unwavering expectations for the people I’d work with and the product we’d provide for them. Finally, because we are a nonprofit ministry my desire is to always show the love of Christ to everyone I meet. I’d love for the world to first know God and that He wants us to live a purposeful and blessed life. Secondly, becoming a published author is a bucket list for some but a blessing to all. Five Stones Press loves serving as a bridge to your blessings.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I moved to Dallas from New Orleans in 2015, and Texas really is like another country. With so much to do and depending on the time of year, we’d head out on my motorcycle to view the massive bluebonnet fields in March or hang out at the Texas State Fair in October. Throughout the rest of the year, I’d treat friends to the Fort Worth Stockyards experience, shopping and eating in the Bishops Arts District. We’d spend more time shopping in the Design District before heading over to my wife’s all-time favorite TexMex at the Original El Fenix restaurant. Capping off the week would involve a drive out to Southfork Ranch before heading up to Reunion Tower for an iconic view of the Dallas Skyline.
