Hi Destinee, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
I value future generations above all because I believe our only job is to ensure the children who come after us live a better quality of life. Much of what I do daily is to impact future generations. I started a YouTube channel to share what I had learned because I wished I learned it at a younger age. Future generations are also the ones who will care for us in our old age and so if we ensure they have all they need and desire they will return the sentiment.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work path was shaped by my desires, starting in Real Estate in Texas was challenging. Before I got my license, I was taken advantage of and not paid for recruiting and onboarding agents for a boutique brokerage. Then, I purposely placed myself at one of the top brokerages in the best location, and because I am a black woman I was still only given the section 8 leads. I paid thousands of dollars to be a part of a brokerage and for training that never resulted in a sale. I toured with clients who used other agents to buy and honestly it never really made sense the way the industry operated. I asked senior agents for advice and they told me to go get a credit card. I found a broker who focused on apartment locating and started to earn a bit more only to realize I was still being eaten up by fees and taxes. My real estate career was born from a desire to travel and own property. The many different opportunities within the Industry intrigued me and I found a deeper desire to educate others. I had two goals after obtaining my license: one was to help my mother purchase a home and the second was to build my YouTube channel to 1000 subscribers. Upon completing those goals, I was introduced to a group of Millennials who shared an interest in educating others on Real Estate and generational wealth. I worked with this team to host a few educational events while finishing up my Master’s degree. When I completed my degree I realized I needed to get back to my why. My work is really beyond real estate. I believe my work is to improve the quality of life here on earth for future generations. This means showing up as my whole self to serve and use all the skills, talents, and knowledge I have been given. In 2020, I founded Growsureez PBC in Dallas, Texas to provide access to foods of high nutritional value to those who live in Food Deserts. I also relocated my Realtor business to Washington state. I partnered with Redfin as an independent contractor in a city I fell in love within 2014, Seattle. I believe because I put education first I have been afforded opportunities I could have never imagined. I chose to get my license in Texas because it is home and it has the most educational requirements for a real estate license compared to all other 49 states. I chose to also study for my Master’s because I knew that Real Estate was an industry where your income is proportional to your relationships. I knew that I was not “good” at relationships and so I chose to focus my studies on communications. I know what makes me successful is my ability to create the environment and circumstances I desire. My focus on my end goals allowed me to move effortlessly through challenges. My resourcefulness opened the door for me to open doors. My values attracted and aligned me with people and companies designed for greatness. The greatest lesson I learned along the way is to study the greats and find your greatness within. I thought I had to do what they did. In fact, at brokerages like Rogers Healy, he gives you a list of his daily activities and claims if you follow you will be successful. I am not a white man and so I had to realize that these real estate gurus can only share what worked for them, I had to find what worked for me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a Dallas native, there are many hidden gems to share. The Japanese Garden at Kidd Springs Park in Oak Cliff is one of my favorites. It is a nice place to have a picnic or just go and meditate by the water. Five Mile Creek is another highly underrated park in south oak cliff. Pre-Covid I would have had Potpurri Boulangerie on the list as it is the best tea house hands down. Since it is closed I would replace that with a trip to Espumoso in Bishop Arts where you can get the best coffee and empanadas. Wingfield’s burgers is a must-stop and also a great grab for a picnic. When my bestie is a vegan I always recommend Sankofa down at Redbird because they have the best spaghetti vegan or not. When we need to work and need great vibes I head to Opening Bell Coffee shop because often you can catch some live performances. People like Leon Bridges have graced the stage at the Opening Bell. When we want to take in all the food and have a food frenzy we will go down to the Farmers Market where you can have a taste of the world. Deep Ellum is one of my favorite places to bar hop. Deep Ellum distillery will have your day made with one drink and then it will be time for food at Vidorra on Main or even Brick and Bones either way the elotes are the move. Before you get back on the plane you have to have Fuel City Tacos a signature Dallas stop that also allows you to take in the epic skyline. When my best friend asks where the best tacos are we head down to El Si Hay on Davis street without question. On a more chill day, the Art Museum and Klyde Warren Park are enlightening and often surrounded by food trucks. The days we want to shop until we drop NorthPark is the move. Basically for the best time ever stick with Oak Cliff and the southern sector of Dallas. If you want to have a little different fun Deep Ellum and Uptown will be a joy.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family is most supportive. I am not sure where I would be without my sisters and I am forever grateful God made sure I defaulted with two of the funniest friends ever. My grandparents are my best friends and always answer when I call on their wisdom. In Dallas specifically, I am grateful for Townview Magnet Center. While I hated my time in High School, I now see the power of the network that was created when these six schools were placed under one building.
