We had the good fortune of connecting with Mo Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mo, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I’m a 42 year old single woman who’s self employed. It was extremely difficult to set boundaries and balance. People automatically assume that since you’re alone all of the time.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always known that I would pursue a career in the arts. I remember getting my first camera at the age of seven and falling in love with it. Photography has many challenges especially when you work for yourself. Over the years, I’ve learned to embrace the fact that it’s absolutely fine to be different. My photography career started from shooting little league sports, then culinary photography and eventually weddings. Wedding photography can be very competitive and you find yourself attempting to photograph like other photographers. There has to be something that sets you apart from everyone else and that something is usually your comfort zone. There is a specific photographer for every couple and I realize that my art caters to a specific brand. It definitely wasn’t an easy road for me to get here but I will always choose my art over popularity and complacency.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
New Orleans is a city that is full of life and celebrations. Everything can become an event. Something as simple as dinner plans can become a full-on party. There are staples in the city such as Brennans and Commanders Palace. Those are always my places when friends are in town. I also love live music at the Windsor Court Hotel. The city is a little quiet right now because of Covid.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout my New Orleans crew! I moved here from Birmingham and we’ve connected personally and professionally through working together on weddings and shoots. Michelle Norwood Events Lovegood Rentals Leaf & Petal Nola Faces of Virtue Wedding Belles Nola Unbridaled
