Meet Dr. Samuel Blacher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Samuel Blacher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Samuel, how does your business help the community?
As a research and consultancy business that focuses on organizational leadership, behavior, and culture, the impact of improvement in these areas can benefit employees, managers, and organizations in various ways, ultimately benefiting society as a whole.
For example, employees can feel more valued, satisfied, and happy with their jobs or work environments, and deal with less friction, negatively-handled conflicts, and stress; managers can become more effective and efficient, through improved performance from their employees, higher retention rates, etc., which would also benefit respective organizations. In turn, organizational effectiveness and efficiency may contribute to lower prices and increased returns to the public through stock prices and government tax income. Overall, improving organizational leadership, behavior, and culture can benefit both directly impacted individuals and organizations, as well as the wider society.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Management at Work (https://www.ManagementAtWork.com), which I recently founded, focuses on research and consultancy in the areas of organizational leadership, behavior, and culture, especially in the tech industry.
It is based on my extensive and diverse education and experience in the field. I hold a PhD in (business) Leadership, an MSc in Engineering & Technology Management, and a BSc with a Computer Science major, and have worked on two continents for various types of organizations, including startups; large, publicly traded, multinational corporations (e.g., Director of Test Engineering at McDonald’s and Senior Manager at Apple); military; and also founded and led my own startup company. I occasionally publish research-based, practice-oriented insights in my newsletter and on other outlets (e.g., CIO Magazine), as well as scholarly-focused research and publications.
I believe that this combination of diverse and extensive engineering, leadership/management, and organizational education and experience, with multiple environments and cultures, supports me in analyzing issues and their contexts, and coming up with innovative and case-specific solutions that consider the broader picture.
I’ve learned that even people who know a great deal can often be wrong (or at least not have the whole truth, and their perspective is one among others which can be not less valuable), and that modesty, being open to other opinions and perspectives, along with believing in my own view (if it is substantiated), is essential. I apply that to myself, too.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m new to the area, so I’d love to get some tips myself. But from what I came to know, I would suggest mingling with local people and getting to know their openness, friendliness, and warmth. As for places, in Fort Worth, the center, the Stockyards with its cattle drive, and the Water Gardens. And, of course, if someone’s visiting Fort Worth, they must also visit Dallas, with its various downtown sites and attractions.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My dear parents, Yuli and Adela, who raised me with love, instilled in me values, and fostered an aspiration for education and achievement.
