We had the good fortune of connecting with Paige Kirkland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paige, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my photography business about sixteen years ago, it did not really take on a business feel until I really graduated from college. I got introduced to photography in high school and fell in love. It really helped me find myself and my voice. At that point I knew this was what I was going to do for the rest of my life. I started taking pictures for friends and family right out of high school and went to college for photography, I graduated with my Bachelors in Fine Arts with my concept in photography. While I was in college I continued to build my business and clientele. I started all of my social media accounts and website. I love taking pictures so it was a no brainer that this is what I wanted to do and what my passion would be.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Oh no starting a business or brand is never easy. You’re going to have people who don’t support you or your art and that’s ok, I am not for everyone and that took a long time to understand. Photography is something that a lot of people can do and some people are going to like others better, it could be the way they edit, prices, packages, if they have known someone longer, really so many things. But you need to know your worth, you will find your people and you will thrive. You can not compare yourself to others, with social media nowadays it’s hard to not compare but trust me you are doing amazing! I admire so many photographers because some things they do that I can’t and in this industry it’s so important to support each other in any way you can! My brand is different because of me, the way I see things through a lens is going to be so different than someone else and that’s so special. My clients become family and I love getting to see them grow and capture those memories for them from family, branding to really any session!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many good spots, we would probably wake up and swing through Dutch bros to grab a drink I would take them to Goldilinks Jewlery in downtown Arlington to get some permanent jewelry or design som trucker hats. Grab some lunch at babes because duh. Then probably head out to Dallas the next day and do yoga at The Jungle and shop. We would have to do a photoshoot at Solomon Studios at some point. And since I have kiddos we would definitely go to cheeky monkeys one day lol

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I give it all to God, I literally wouldn’t be where I am without him. He gave me the talent and the eye to see beauty in all things. Honestly I thank him daily for my eyesight, without it I literally wouldn’t be able to do any of this.

As for support my husband, family and friends have been so supportive throughout the last sixteen years, especially during the more creative times of you will. No one ever told me I couldn’t do this. I was always told I would succeed at a business were I get to be creative. My husband is my biggest supporter he will drop anything to help me and I’m beyond grateful for him.
